PLEASE PLEASE HELP!! Expert needed to dissolve Juvederm!

Postby Cayolinda » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:54 pm

Hi everyone, I'm desperately trying to find a doctor in SOUTH FLORIDA that has expertise in dissolving Juvederm under the eyes. I had Juvederm for hollowing / deep grooves in my tear troughs 3 weeks ago. It appears to much was put in. I'm very, very puffy; it looks like I've been crying for days and the swelling almost looks transparent or whitish. I really doubt it's swelling after all this time. Also, my under eye area is very discolored. My doctor said he was an expert and taught others how to inject and said the proper way to inject was under the muscle, so why is there discoloration and this puffiness? I don't want to return to the doctor that did this to me; if he couldn't put it in correctly, I sure can't trust him to dissolve it correctly. I'm very fearful of having it dissolved by someone that isn't 100% experienced in doing this. I don't want to make a bad situation even worse. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this puffiness normal after 3 weeks or is dissolving the only answer? I would really appreciate it if I could get some input on this and the name of a doctor with experience!! Thank you all so much.

Hi Cayolinda!

I didn't like the way the Resty looked in my tear troughs but I did like it everywhere else. My doc removed the Resty in my tear troughs and it worked quickly and looked pretty good. The Resty in the areas I like the placement of is starting to dissipate. Next time I will stick to the outer area of my under eyes. It was a rough go the first time with my doc, but I think I'm going to give him another try now that I have a better understanding of this stuff. I also think he is more familiar with my eyes. One more chance.

I have heard many people having better results with a nurse practitioner rather than an "expert" doc. You never know. Maybe you can give your doc another chance for the removal considering he knows his own work. Plus, it should be done for FREE!!!!

Kind-of-me, you said when you had it removed in your tear troughs it worked pretty quickly. Did he remove all of it and did you go back to your original state (before the Resty) with no problems? I keep imagining lose skin from the stretching of the skin after being puffy for so long. Did you bruise or swell after it was dissolved and if yes, how long did that last before you looked normal again? How did resty on the outer part of your eye help with the trough area?

I'm afraid to go back to the doc that did this to me. If he couldn't get it right the first time, it's hard for me to imagine he's going to get it right to dissolve. My trust has gone out the window. How do your eyes look now - are you happy?

Cayolinda, your experience sounds like mine. I had a PS who had done my upper bleph, inject juvederm in my tear troughs. It was swollen and blue. He also liked to brag about how much expertise he had. He removed it , but not very well. I think I looked pretty bad for several months. I really wish I had never gone to him. He's a good surgeon, but not a good injector. I understand your hesitance about going back to see him. But, as Kind-Of-Me said, he should do it for free.
I see a nurse practitioner now for all my injections. She uses Radiesse under my eyes. It's not in the tear troughs, but more on the outer area, towards my cheek bone. The effect is exactly what I want. The volume in my cheekbones smooths out my under eye area, and it looks really good.

Sued,

When you say you looked "pretty bad" for several months, can you describe "bad"??? Do you mean your eyes remained swollen, or was it bruising, OR was it that the skin got loose and wrinkley from being previously swollen with the Juve. I really hate to be a pest but I want to know what to expect and prepare to wear "fake" glasses as a cover up for months to come! Can I ask, how long did you have the Juvederm in your undereye area before you finally decided to dissolve it, was it weeks, months, or longer? That's exactly my worry about going to the doc that injected it. I really believe that if he couldn't inject correctly he's not going to know how to properly remove it. Free or not, I can't take that chance.

Finally, does the volume in your cheekbones smooth out the tear troughs too? It's hard to imagine how, do you have pics that you can privately share with me or maybe you can describe this to me a little bit more. Just PM me and I'll give you my private email.

Thanks for your response. This is so stressful and expensive!!

I waited about 6 weeks before having the juvederm removed. I had it done at the same time I had my upper bleph done, and it was my first time for both, so I didn't know what was "normal". Finally, a nurse told me that the bluish bags under my eyes were from juvederm injected incorrectly - not deeply enough. Of course, the doctor would never admit that he did a bad job, he just removed it for free. Still, it was money down the drain. Even after it was removed, the bluish bags were gone, but I had a crepey baggy look I didn't have before. I have no way of knowing if it was caused by the juvederm, but I don't know what else it could be.
As for the Radiesse, my injector tried to convince me to do this for about a year before I finally did. I was skeptical that it would do anything, so I understand why you can't imagine it. I was so pleasantly surprised. She has before and after pictures, but I don't have any here. Everyone has a different situation though. It's probably best to find a really good injector and get some good advice from them. I really love my injector, but I'm in Delaware, so it's doubtful you're near me.

Sued, was the crepey bagginess permanent or did your eyes eventually go back to looking normal in a few months? Prior to having the Juve I didn't have undereye wrinkles. I am terrified that when it is removed I'm going to be left with loose, baggy skin too! I wish I could picture how the Radiesse helped your under eye area. Thanks for answering my on-going questions. I'm so darn nervous about all of this and terrified on what I'm going to end up looking like. Part of me wants to let it dissolve on its own but then I think the longer it stays swollen like this. the more chance of stretching the skin and it not returning back to normal! Plus, the puffiness looks so bad - I don't think I can wait patiently for it to dissolve.

The crepiness went away with the Radiesse. I had the same thoughts that you have - does the filler permanently stretch your skin? I've actually asked the first doctor, and he said no. But, I don't think they know for sure. When I had the doctor do the injection to dissolve the juvederm, I asked him not to dissolve all of it. At that point I thought the problem was mostly that he put in too much Juvederm, but it turns out that if the problem is that he didn't inject it deep enough, it's going to look bad no matter how much is left in.
Another doctor that I had a consultation with (but didn't use) told me that you can never dissolve all the filler - that it adheres to the cells and you keep it forever. It's frustrating, because you get so many different opinions from people who are supposed to be experts.
I had the Radiesse done in April, 7 months ago. I'm seeing the affects lessening at this point. Some of the bagginess is back, but not the crepiness. I also had my n/l lines done, and they're starting to show again as well. That's the downside to all of this. It's temporary. I can't afford to get more right now, and it's supposed to last 9 - 18 months. It probably does take that long to entirely wear off, but it's hard to watch the effects start to diminish.
If you look at Renee on the page below, you can kind of see how the increased cheek bones pull the undereye area taut. It's not really obvious, because she didn't have problems before. Don't know if that helps.

Thank you for your detailed info Sued, I really appreciate it. I have an appt. with an eyelid surgeon next week who also does fillers (and dissolving). I asked about the possibility of dissolving just the excess but he said that it doesn't work like that; one doc I consulted with said she would remove a little at a time and that it might take a couple of sessions to get it right. I mentioned this to my new doc and he said you can't possibly say that only a little will be removed at a time, I guess for the same reason you gave. He said that more than likely it will all have to be removed, especially since I have the discoloration in addition to the puffiness. I had Radiesse placed in my cheeks (like Renee's) at the same time I had the undereye filler. I love the outcome (looks a lot like Renee's). If it weren't for my puffy right eye, I would look great, but the puffiness creates somewhat of a groove between my eyelid and my cheekbone, which does not look good. My new doctor that I'm seeing next week to dissolve said I would have to wait at least two weeks before trying to reinject my tear trough again, AND he said he will use Restylane. He doesn't use Juve for under the eye. I'll probably wait longer than two weeks and give my poor eyes a rest! You're right, who can you believe with so many doctors giving different opinions! I can't believe that after only 7 months your Radiesse is starting to diminish already. I also thought that it was supposed to last at least a year, maybe longer. I guess I better start saving my money for round two! I wish it were permanent, but on the other hand, our face changes as we age and what looks good today may not look good tomorrow, so there's an up side to everything, right?

HI for ANYONE that gets juvaderm or any injections under your eyes go out and buy Lise Watiers eye patches or any similar product. They will help keep the swelling down and not last for 2 or more weeks. do not put any cream on as the cream makes it puffy as well. I was shocked at how I looked 8 days later under one eye. So desperate I tried everything, including an antihistamine (which may have helped). They should warn you of this but do not . I will never get this done again - NOT under the eye area. the rest was fine. I went to a very highly trained professional - still do not get it done. NO NO NO

I had Juvederm injected into my tear troughs back in mid March. I had terrible bruising and swelling with one eye. Today is May 23rd and I still have noticeable blue bruising under the one eye and some swelling. In 2007 I had fat transfer to the same areas and it looked great for a while, but I did (and still do) have a small raised place from that procedure already. The Dr. Said that the fat transfer must have caused tissue scaring and that's why I have the issue I have now after the filler. Should I be worried about the under eye bruising and swelling being permanent?
