Revisions/lipo 6/7

Postby shesinmex » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:52 pm

Hi,

I'm getting ready to go in this week and kinda nervous. Sept '10 I had an arm lift where the scar only went 2/3 the way down my arm instead of all the way to my elbow. My dr wanted to do it in 2 parts so that I didn't have a scar that went all the way to my elbow and then once that part healed, go back and get lipo to smooth it out. During that surgery I also had a thigh lift, revision to tummy tuck and lots of shaping lipo to give me curves.. so a lot went on in that surgery.

After spitting stitches all over, open wounds all over and freaking out over my recovery, I am ready to go back to even out my arms. My tummy tuck revision healed perfectly as did my thigh lift.

Anyhow I went to sign up for the laser lipo and the dr and his assistant were all excited and they are going to revise my scar line and maybe cut a bit more for free.. To be honest this part kinda scares me. The doctor told me not to worry that they won't be cutting as deep and that they will only be cutting away the scar and so there won't be any "tension" on the wound and so the recovery isn't so bad. But the idea of having two 20+ inch incisions again just kinda scares me.

For those who have had revision surgery.. is it easier than the first time?? I mean I know what I did wrong the first time.. but just tell me that I will only be down a few days verses weeks this time.

I also know I did my full body all at once that last time and this time will just be my arms. I would measure it as half of a baseball that needs to be lipoed from each arm. So it won't be as traumatic. Someone mentioned in another post that they did a revision only to have their scars grow wide again?? I don't want that to happen. Can someone describe to me recovery for something like this??

Hello,

I can't speak to a full recutting, but I did have partial revisions on both arms. Yes, the level they cut at is not the same as the original surgery. So, the scar does not have the tension on it, so the chances of spreading are a lot less. The recovery is much better. You will still swell and bruise, but it's a lot less than the first time. After a week and a half my arms were normal size again. Whereas with the first surgery, it took months.

I had some spreading on one arm, but it's not much and it's only in a couple spots. I didn't ask for revisions, as I am so pale that once they are white they will be pretty much invisible even with a few wider spots.

My revisions were done to get more skin at the tops and bottom (elbow of one arm) and to get more fat off the other arm. I am glad I did them, but for me, it wasn't worth the whole recutting of the one arm. It would really depend on how the scars looked and how you felt about them.

I feel if your PS is suggesting it, then it's probably worth it. It seems so many times with revisions that we have to beg/plead to get anything done. So, I would take his suggesting it as a positive. :)

I had my surgery today. Dr only recut part of my scar.. but some how he seemed to make it a lot shorter. It used to go 3/4 of the way from my armpit to my elbow and now it only goes half way. It looks a lot smaller in comparison to how wide and long it was. So it was a good thing to have him recut it.

The laser lipo hurt more on my left arm than my right. My left arm was bigger though. He lipoed out my bra line as well so I won't have that nub of fat behind my arm above my braline anymore. Which is great because I hated that. That area is more sore than my arms though.

They said not to wear compression garment until Saturday. I guess that is when I will stop leaking. I am still leaking a lot. I have changed the pads 3 times now. Even though I am very swollen I can see a huge difference in the size and shape of my arms. I know tomorrow I'm going to be purple.

I am glad things went well. That's really interesting how he made the scar shorter, I wonder how he did it? But, that's great news.

Well I guess I am on day 2. My poor hands are so swollen. The pain is not bad at all. I was supposed to wait until today to put on my garment, but I did it yesterday. I stopped draining and the burnt skin feeling was getting to me.

I feel much better with my compression garment on. I wore it all night last night and took it off for a moment this morning to get a glimps in the mirror. I am very swollen and purple in a couple spots, but my arms look so much better. There are some lumps. Part of me wants to start massaging and the other part of me doesn't even want to touch my arms. I am starting to put pressure on them. Like to lean against a pillow and have pressure on my arm. A little pressure through the cg actually feels good.

Day 3 of recovery and I have a lot of swelling in my hands. I know it will go away but I'm kinda miserable with the swelling. :( My hands look huge. I am going to lay down and elevate my arms to see if that helps. I put on a bigger set of sleeves. I don't know if it is better to take off my garment for a while or not. At least until my fingers go back to normal.
