Scar treatments AdviceHi all I am 10 weeks post op and looking to start treatment on my scar. I have read a lot of information online and this website. I would appreciate any input into what my fellow AL patients used and if they have or have not had success. Some of these creams, strips etc can be pricey. Then I read just to use bio oil...? Also I figure I will be committing to treating the area for about a year. Does that sound about right?
Thanks in advance. Paula
Re: Scar treatments AdviceI tried mederma and kelo-cote. I did'nt really think it did much. My scars a raised a bit. I've been religious about massaging them with cocoa butter cream once or twice a day and have seen an improvement.

Re: Scar treatments AdviceMy PS says that the ONLY thing that has been clinically oroven to improve scar is the Silicone Stips. He also recomends massaging the scars as soon as two to three weeks PO. I trust him since he is taking an expertise in scar & wound treatment as a specialty. I just started massaging and the the silicone treatment so i can't say IF it's working yet. Will post as soon as I can, but I have a question, I think that traetment timing can be cricial for the scar's final result why did it take you 10 months to start treating it?, just surious.
Take care http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/brac ... urn-a10270

Re: Scar treatments AdviceHello apprehensive711,
Sounds like you're getting some great tips. I would recommend trying silicone sheeting as they are the first line of treatment for all hypertrophic scarring. The ones sold on this site are of a medical grade (made with a higher concentration of silicone) and reusable. You have to wash the sheets with warm water and a mild soap every 12 hours - the Biodermis ones will last 3 weeks, whereas the Scar Fx ones will last 3 months. For anyone wondering where to find these sheets, please click below: http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product/s ... ?procid=42 Studies have shown that silicone sheeting is effective on old scars however the most dramatic improvement occurs with fresh scars so I would say that now is the best time to start the treatment. You can also try the Kelo-cote Scar Gel. It is made of silicone and works by flattening, softening, and smoothing out scars. It's one of our number one selling scar treatments and has gotten a lot of positive feedback, which you can read by clicking at the link below: http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.do?id=10066 Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.
