Anyone wrapped with an ACE BANDAGE please help?

Anyone wrapped with an ACE BANDAGE please help?

Postby alicia27lmt » Sat Jun 28, 2008 11:40 am

Ok, it's saturday and I was able to shower today. How long does this dumb ace wrap thing have to stay on? I am not even sure how tight it should be. I bought a couple of post-op bras and don't know if I can wear them or what? I think the nurse in recovery said to keep this on until I go for my post-op on tues. It's kinda a pain and keeps loosening up.....any others who had this have any advice? It is two wide ace bandages...how tight should they be?

thanks
alicia

Don't want to call PS cause his message says for emergencies, which this clearly is NOT....lol

Hi,

I am not in an ace bandage.. Just the gauze around my boobs then the bra.. Do you have tape on your incisions? I don't get why you need the ace bandage thing going on...

sorry....

Hey Laurie,
I have steri strips around my nipples, and antibiotic strips on my other incisions, then gauze over that, then the ace bandages. I vaguely remember the nurse in recovery saying PS wrapped me in an ace for more compression instead of the post-op bra, then she snuck me a post-op bra to take home. She said keep the ace on until you come back in next tuesday though, obviously it comes off to shower, but DH and I have to put it on together and it's just a pain and not so comfy. I was just wondering cause I saw some other ladies who had an ace on too what they did, and how??

Using the ace wrap for the first few days for compression is done routinely by many Dr's. Your Dr might have determined in the OR that you could have been a bit 'jucier" then some with bleeding and that you woudl benefit from the extra compression the wrap would give you in these first very important first few days.

My suggestion is to continue with the compression wrap until Tuesday or do what you don't want to do and call the Dr to answer this question.

Ace Bandage

Postby PhillyRose » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:15 am

Fold it in half so that its not so wide. My first surgery they put it on the wide way and it was too much, but after my revision they folded it in half. Its easier to work with. You can also wear it over a tee shirt so its not digging in to your skin.

i only had to wear the ace bandage the first 24 hours. My ps office called me the next day after surgery to tell me to remove it. If its too tight, like you cant breathe, you can loosen it.

i'm wearing one and it sucks, i have to keep mine tight and put it on after showers but sometimes i cheat for half an hour and let the girls hang

the compression will help with the swelling and my doc says it also helps the implants lower into the places created for them..make sure you wear it until you ask

heart goes out to you i know they suck! but it will be worth it

I had mine on for five days. I wasn't allowed to take it off! TORTURE. :) It was super duper tight. BUT my breasts had barely any swelling when I got it off. It all went to my tummy!

I know it sucks but if your PS said to keep it on I'd listen. Good luck!

Thanks ladies,
Ps called me yesterday and said I can go braless if the ace is bugging me. He said they usually put on a post-op bra but it was too tight on me so they used the ace wrap instead. I have a couple of post op bra's but they hit right on my incisions and make them bleed so I will stick to the ace wrap.

After partial mastectomy 2 weeks ago, I now have Ace compression bandage, it helps with pain and stretching, but it makes a part of my good breast nipple swell and it is almost falling off. I know I need to see or talk to my provider but does anybody have this concern?
