Can I put Neosporin on my stitches?

Can I put Neosporin on my stitches?

Postby CBee » Fri Oct 27, 2006 9:10 pm

I'm day 10 PO and my stitches are really sharp/scratchy. Can I put Neosporin on them in the hopes that it'll help a little?

Thanks.. :(

I don't see why not, if you think it would make them feel better but after the itching/scratching feeling heals, you really need to use a scar treatment that is designed to make the scar less visible.

I would not. Since you have no infection you don't want to desensitize your body to the Neosporin.
Are you due to have your sutures out Monday? I am sure they are due to be taken out any day :)
Many find just laying a piece of gauze over the uture line helpful...no tape needed

My ps assistant told me to put neosporin on them because they got hard and itchy and crusty. i only did it until the scabs softened a bit and then stopped.

Once they told healed and were gone, i started using scar treatment.
