Tearing an internal stitch - please advise!

Tearing an internal stitch - please advise!

Postby ElliBU » Sat May 13, 2006 1:32 pm

Is it possible to tear an internal stitch from a sharp movement? I mean, is there such a thing as internal stitches to begin with? Does everyone with BA get them? Last night I was doing things around the house and stretched my arm out too quickly and felt a tight pull / sharp pain inside the bottom of my right breast.. I have been really worried about what this could mean since then. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! :(

Hi, don't panic...it sounds like what you are going through is normal....did the sharp pain/pull get better after a few moments? I know Miki or some of our other more knowledgible people here will have more advice for you and certainly if you have any questions or doubts, no matter if it's the weekend or not, you definitely should check in right away with your surgeon. I am 5 weeks post op and several times did experience exactly what you described....I don't know if it was internal stitches or just muscles and nerves coming awake, but each time, it did go away and was a signal to me to take it easy and be patient in the recovery process. I did have a separate problem with stitches...one did try to work its way out under my right breast and caused a little blister, and then it became infected, but the Dr. responded to my concerns immediately and the antibiotics he prescribed cleared it up right away. If some time has gone by and it's still hurting, do call and check in with your Dr. Best of luck, Maajida

you should be fine:) It has happened to most of us. You gotta listen to your body and go slow still with stretching :)

Thank you so much, dear ladies! :) Does anyone know if there actually ARE internal stitches with breast augmentation and where they are placed. Also, is it possible to accidentally tear them? I'm 2 weeks post-op with overs. Thank you!!!

Yes, we have internal stitches :) You possbly would have new bruising where they tore.

What was your incision site?

I have areola incision. The pull I felt last night hurt only for a moment and then it was gone but is it possible that I could have torn a stitch. And since it was at the bottom of my breast could this result in bottoming out? Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it!!

Oh, I just remembered - how long does it take for internal stitches to dissolve and is it possible that what I felt was a muscle? Thank you, girlies!!!! :)
