Areola Question

Areola Question

Postby Julia_Chloe » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:51 am

Is it "normal" to have differently shaped areolas/different sizes? I thought/hoped my surgeon would make them the same size but it seems like this is maybe not really possible (at least not without cutting nerves etc.)? Does anybody know or also have different areola sizes/shapes?

Swelling and early adjustments could be causing this. If, after a few months, they are still different, and it bothers you, it is an easy fix. I am going in next month to have one of mine reduced, as it is quite a bit bigger than the other.

That said, in past breast surgeries I have had, they have evened out on their own after 2-3 months. Just need to give it time before you have what will be your final results.

Mhm they are really significantly different. Just like before, about 1/3rd is the left bigger. But also, they had to lift my right breast more in the relift, so I am wondering now.. if I would have the left areola (bigger one) reduced, then it'd also lift the left breast more, which would then make the right one look more droppy again. This really annoys me atm. Yes, I will give it some more time, but I don't think that my right areola will magically grow 1/3rd more in the next months. :D Even though it'd be nice.

How big is the difference for you?

Pretty big, but that whole breast needs work. I was a hard case in that I was having mesh put in, and one of my breasts was already much bigger than the other, so I was having different sized implants, and the pocked made smaller. Also had CC develop in the other breast.

So, my doctor ended up not taking as much skin as needed on the one breast, so it needs to be tightened up as well as the areaola made smaller.

No, I do not think that a smaller areola is going to grow, but a larger one may shrink if it is swelling making it larger. That's what I've had in the past. In my case, that won't happen as I am not swelling any longer and the difference is too great. The bigger one is elongated as well, since that breast pulls down due to needing to be tightened more.

I will let you know how the revisions go, which will be sometime in July. I've still not made the appt.

Make your appointment, woman!!! :D
Will you have to go under full anesthesia or will it be an office thing? Sounds tough what your breasts have gone through already.. I wish you all the best! Your surgeon will make it all perfect, I am sure! :)

I just emailed my surgeon and asked about this.. my left areola is half an inch bigger (in diameter) than the right one. Makes me really sad. :(
