puckering and folding with lollipop BL

puckering and folding with lollipop BL

Postby SunshineH » Mon Mar 16, 2009 10:38 am

Hi everyone I had my BL 20 days ago, so 3 weeks tomorrow!! I had a follow up appt today, and he took off the remainder of my steri strips off and i got to see my incisions. It all looks great to me, except at the bottom of my left breast where the vertical incision stops, it has a really bad fold and puckering thing going on. :? (Both my breasts actually have this but not worried at all about the right anymore) Which he said would go away in time. He told me to put this paper tape on my insicions to help keep them flat and help with scars and healing. Well after he had left the room and I was getting dressed and getting ready to leave I notice it was bleeding a little bit on the left where the puckering and fold is. Just went ahead and got dressed and went on home, but I can't stop worrying about it. It actually hurts a little bit too. Not bad but still. And I can't really tell where it's bleeding from because the end of the vertical incision is like down in the fold...... KWIM?

I wish I could post a pic but I havent been able to get my camera to upload anything. I think i need to uninstall and reinstall it.

I thought maybe when he pulled the strip off it pulled off a scab too? And I'm not sure if I should put the tape over where it's bleeding or just leave that spot open? Any suggestions?

I called my Dr's office and I'm waiting right now for a call back.....

Just needed to tell someone about it.... lol

Thanks everyone

Hi - I had that puckered look with my lollipop incision. I found that over time the weight of the boobs kind of popped the funny puckered bit back into shape. I had implants, don't know if this made a difference, but you might find that your breasts drop a little and stretch out the puckering.
As for the bleeding, definitely see what your ps says but I had a spit stitch which was bleeding for a couple of days and my ps said not to put any paper tape on it but to use betadine and cover with gauze everyday until healed.

I'm only 1 week post op, so the puckering is definitely still there for me. My PS told me it would be at least a month before it all worked itself out, but he promised me it would (and I trust him, he has never misled me yet).

I get my stitches out on Friday and I'm nervous that it's going to start bleeding/oozing again also. I was told I have to keep steri-strips on my incisions all the time for THREE MONTHS. They are going to show me how to install them when I go on Friday. My PS said that because scar tissue takes so long to develop whatever strength it will get (maybe 80% of regular skin) he doesn't like to put any pressure at all on the scar tissue, thus the long period of steri strips.

Please let us know what your PS says! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Okay well, my Dr's office called me back yesterday. It was the nurse I never get to talk to my PS over the phone. Anyway I told her what was going on, and she said of course that it was ALL normal, and that I could put the tape over that area even if it was bleeding.

But I just couldn't put the tape over it. So I taped everything else up and left the one spot where it's puckered and bleeding open. I felt like if I taped it up that it would just keep the puckered bunch of skin all smashed up and by not taping it maybe when my breast does fall and take a little different shape and the weight would pop it out and back into place. Lilke bluebizoo said. So I'm going with my gut on this one. The place where the skin is all gathered looks so strange to me. I'm not very positive that this is going to go away on its own. The right one I am optimistic about but the left looks pretty bad, and where its got the bunch of wrinked skin it's also hard feeling to touch and very tender. Plus, it's really unfomfortable not matter what bra i wear because that bunch of skin is right above my crease so any bra will rub or hit it. I'm so ready to be healed!!!

Will it ever happen? lol...... :(

At my 4 wk po my PS took my steri strips off and at the T zone on both breast I had an pencil eraser size open spot- well, not really open just raw and wet.

I called they said normal.

I tried keeping it covered but the left breast got worse- the area turned white and got bigger.

Now- for the last 3 days I have used cotton balls to wipe (gently- dab really) the area with saline (like I clean my contacts with) and then a little antibiotic ointment BUT not leaving the area wet. I then make a square off with a band aid. The cotton area of the band aid actually squares at the top and sits right above the spot but NOT touching it. Kind of a protection zone lol. I then place cotton balls on each side of the band aid-keeping my bra (still no underwire for me- can not think of it lol.) from pushing the band aid down.

I also pulled the area just on top of the sore a bit and steri stripped long ways (not along the scar) the seemed to take pressure off the sore (it was almost pulling open).

As of today-area is much smaller, now dry and seems to be clean.

The right breast just healed with little attention. Hmmm.

I've been putting abdominal pads in my sports bra to keep the bra from rubbing the incision/stitches/steri strips. It's helped a lot to stop any chafing. Maybe that would help you be a little more comfortable. I bought them in the pharmacy in the wound care section.

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone for your replies. I appreciate every single one of them. I love this place!! Helps me a lot. Otherwise I'd be calling my Dr's office everyday. lol. I know it's gonna take quite some time for those folded places to smooth out, I'm dealing with it... But atleast it's not bleeding anymore! :)

Thanks Ladies.

Hi SunshineH,

I just read your post and cant find anyone else with the fold and puckering after a BR/BL.

It is now 11 days after my BR/BL and I have this going on too under my right breast, did yours go away? I just need some reassurance :-(

Thanks!
