34/36DD to B... will this be too small?

34/36DD to B... will this be too small?

Postby lovemylabs » Sat Oct 19, 2013 6:47 pm

I just found out that Tricare approved my BR and am SOOO excited!!! I am so ready to have this done! My surgery is schedule for Nov. 15th. Since it was pre-insurance approval I really didn't ask very many questions during my consultation. I am assuming my PS will get much more detailed when I go in for my pre op physical. He did ask me what size I wanted to go down to and I said a C. He seemed to think that because of the way my body was shaped that I shouldn't go much smaller as I may not like it. The more I think about it I really think I want a B cup. I would love to be able to have small perky little boobs, wear bra less shirts and normal sized bathing suits. I am 5'4 and weight 145lbs. Anyone have any advice???? :)

I had my reduction in Jan 2012. I went from a 36DDDD to a size 34C. I am 100% delighted. But I would carefully consider all the aesthetics of your body shaping. I think a great PS is not only a great plastic surgeon, but also an "artist". Consider what he says along with your personal desires. Are your shoulders broad, average or narrow? Ditto for your hips? I lost ALL my weight prior to my surgery, (the 36 was when I still had swelling) as my PS said that's when I would be the happiest with the outcome. For me, 5'7", with narrow shoulders and average hips, the C is perfect.
Because I was so large, a C cup now looks to me, like I then imagined a B would. Good luck. The reduction was one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

I just had my second breast reduction...my first was in 1985, age 22. This time, I told the PS I wanted to be small Small SMALL! I am only 10 days post op so what I end up looking like remains to be seen. However, my doctor was very concerned about nipple re-perfusion, probably because it was my second go 'round. He told me any smaller and it would have been considered a mastectomy. I really don't think so but, I had to trust that he would do the best he could with what he had. In any case, right now my boobs are high up and round....it's such a relief to not have an "underneath" with red itchy rashes!

Hi Lovemylabs!
I am 5'4" at 145 pounds also, and my breasts are a 36DDD. I also have Tricare (standard). What process did you go through to get Tricare approval? I really want a BR but I've been hesitant because I don't know if Tricare will approve. Also, I want to go to a 36B as well. :-)

My husband is retired Army and we are Tricare Prime. I had been thinking about doing this for years but just put up with the aches and pains. Once I decided I really wanted to do it I visited my Primary Care Doctor and asked if she could put me in a referral to look into the possibility of having it done. She really didn't ask me very many questions. I just told her I wanted it because of my neck, shoulders and back hurting and aching constantly. I already had a PS in mind so I asked if she could put the referral in to see him. About a week later I had my approval and went for a consultation. He said that he would submit it but that most insurance companies wanted at least 400 to 500 grams taken out to approve it but he said Tricare didn't seem to be as bad so we would have to just keep our fingers crossed and see. He submitted that he would remove 350 from each breast. They also took pictures that day and I wrote a letter to send with the request basically stating my troubles and why I wanted to have it done. They submitted all of my information to Tricare on a Monday and the approval was given that Friday. It all went much easier than I expected it to! My surgery is going to be Nov. 15th! :)

My husband is also retired military. Great news that you've gotten approval! Keep us posted on how the surgery goes. I don't need referrals for Tricare Standard, so I'm going to contact a PS who is in the network and see if I can get approved too!

Just make sure to express your shoulder, neck pain, back pain and any other complaints. In the letter I wrote about how it interferes with exercise and I can not enjoy the things I like to do, for instance, running without pain. I have shoulder grooves too. I also included that i take ibuprofen and have been for years but am afraid of the long term effects it may have on my kidneys. All this will help plead your case.

Also, I have read where many insurance companies want you to attach medical records to support your claims prior visits for back pain etc.... I have pretty much self treated myself so there weren't any documents to attach. Plus, being military my records are everywhere. I was afraid that this may hurt my chances but it didn't! Hopefully you will get a referral and approval soon too! I will keep you posted! :)

Best of luck in your surgery, lovemylabs! Good luck to you too, Sivapc, in getting approval!

Lovemylabs, do you have a surgical compression bra yet? We have quite a few great ones on the site:

The silky smooth fabric makes it easier to slip on and off. The fabric is remarkably lightweight and breathable, yet fiercely strong and durable. The fabric provides the compression control you need to optimize circulation and enhance healing, while giving you the "feel good" comfort that patients demand.

Ideal for use following plastic surgery and any breast procedures, the Isavela Breast Surgery Support Bra provides an optimal amount of compression to help improve the blood circulation, minimize swelling after the procedure, and speed up the healing process. The Comprexx Tecsheen fabric is long lasting and retains its shape and compression even under extended wear and washing. Garment is latex-free, breathable, and features 2 inch band and hook-and-eye closure.

Hi there lovemylabs. How did the surgery go? It was for 11/15 I believe, so perhaps you're up and about by now. Love to hear how you are doing. I have a PS consult set for 1/3/14. Took me a while to set it up.
