I can't wait to sleep on my side! When can I ?

Postby boobies » Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:48 pm

I've had my new boobs for 1 week and 2 days and have been really good about sleeping slightly elevated on my back but when can I expect to start sleeping on my side (safely)? And how long do I have to wait to lay on my stomach?

my doctor said i could lay however i wanted to right after surgery. she said as long as i am comfortable, i can sleep however i want. i would ask your doctor though for sure. all doctors have different opinions on healing.

My doctor didn't say that I had to sleep on my back. I was able to sleep on my side, not for the whole night, but for short periods. That was enough to get me a good night's rest. With each week, I could rest on my side, comfortably, for a longer time. Check with your doctor to see if it's okay for you to try.

I got a really flat pillow and used that as cusion so i could lay on my side to sleep while the sides were still sore. My PS told me i could sleep on my side as soon as it was comfortable for me too. I would ask yours just to make sure.

I just started sleeping on my side. I use a large squishy pillow to cushion the new girls, and so far it has been very comfortable! I am so happy to not sleep on my back anymore! :D

Im so happy you asked this question! Im tired of sleeping on my back. Its not too bad but some times I end up on my side not knowing and I correct it as soon as I notice. It Sucks!! Cant wait to get this healing process done and over with.... Cant even appreciate my new boobs.. thats how aggravated I get sometimes with the healing.. ARRGH!

Thanks for the tips ladies!

Hi LaMusica! 'm doing okay--you? Watching an impossible amount of television and trying to force myself to take it easy. So hard not to reach, pull, push bend etc when there isn't pain to remind you to back off. I think the healing is going well, but I have a weird puff of swelling underneath my right boob that hasn't gone away since the surgery... Told a few more friends about the boob job and have had mixed responses--some elated, some way judgemental. Worried about going back to work (no one knows the why I'm on leave). I'm obsessed with my boobs...I take pics everyday. I can't wait to do some sit ups. Anyway, let's catch up and trade notes! I think we're the only two on the message board who had surgery on 3/23!

It started to get better for me around a week post-op. I think it was a combination of the right pillows in the right places, getting used to sleeping on my back and being comfortable shifting positions during the night. I took Tylenol PM or "Simply Sleep" at bedtime too. That also helped.

Annalee discovered the "junior comfort U pillow" and sent me this link with a picture. You can pull one side of the "U" up behind your back and sort of sleep on your side and back at the same time. Also puts a buffer between you and your DH (who may forget you've got sore parts).

Lots of gals like the wedge pillow, but it didn't help me at all.

Keep experimenting. It does get better.
