If the stitches are already poking out, that part is not going to dissolve and you need to either snip them yourself (very carefully!) or have the doctor remove them.

Don't do what I did -- -- I saw a little white stitch bit poking out under my breast and I thought 'hmm well I'll just get that right out of there" so got the tweezers and pulled ... and pulled ... and pulled. I pulled out a foot of stitch material -- the PS told me afterward it was the "running stitch" they put at the bottom of your breasts. I freaked myself out!-

Anne...

Its an itty bit poking out,and yes its white, it looks like telephone wire(thin wire)that you see in a telephone jack, I tried to catch with tweezers and pull but can't get a grip...the other 3 - 4 I can feel but can't see...I am scared to death because I don't want doc to cut/reopen healed scars to get these out, so I am like what / how is this gonna happen...

I am six months PO and I can still feel some of my stitches on the horizontal line. They are not actually poking out of the skin, but I can feel them in there and I feel like they're making my scars wider than they need to be. The last time I saw my surgeon 3 months ago, he said that we should just leave them if they're not poking out. That they would eventually desolve, but they're still there. I've thought of cutting them out, but I just hate to open up things again. They're a little better, though the scars are a little more than I expected.

BTW, if it's any consolation, the doctor did cut and pulled out some that were poking out at the time, and I didn't feel a thing. There is at least that advantage to the loss of sensation...

Best of luck

Oh Cecillia, you made me cringe, LOL...saying doc cut and pulled, YIKES!

Mine are on the horizontal scare (anchor part) under the breast...I CAN NOT imagine my doctor cutting them or me and me not being able to feel...trust me I have feeling all over my breast, LOL...I have very low pain tolerance...

They will eventually dissolve, I am so glad to know that, but jeeze how long...my scare is not bad at all, you can hardly see it...just those couple of spots that are a lil red/lumpy where I can feel them, then 3 spots they are poking out very lil, I can't imagine him cutting them, there is not enough to grab and snip without him snipping my skin, OHHHHHH NOOOOO!!

I will keep you posted let ya know what happens when I go Tuesday morning...thanks for your feed back!

the last time I got a pucker from the stitches I just poked it and pulled slowly, and it came out, without blood.

Well Ladies I survived...he snipped the wire one that was up under the breast,on each breast matter of fact, the one giving me all the trouble...then he said let me see, I think there is one we missed too, it was around the nipple area..so I was like no no leave it, its not bothering me, he said nooooo, so he left and came back with some different tweezer like things, so I am looking up and he says OH I got it LOOK, that was the worse thing for him to say, cause I look down and I see about 2 inches of what look like fishing twine, and I freaked out, he was like, DON"T LOOK THEN, so he probably pulled another 1/2 in, all in one long piece that didn't dissolve around the nipple area..I love him to death, he has great since of humor, great bedside manners, and is just as nice and concerned as can be...

So nots so bad of a visit after all...lil sore, but I will make it...
