How long stitches reabsorbed?

How long stitches reabsorbed?

Postby Mrsdtopteach » Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:10 pm

I just hit my three month mark, when my PS promised he would clip what's left of my stitches out. As it turns out, his hours don't conicide with mine and he's going on holiday, so the office manager said it would be all right to clip what I see myself and the rest will eventually dissolve and reabsorb. So tonight I noticed that in the vertical scar down from my nipple the stich is still connected so I snipped it in the middle and I'm hoping that opening will eventually close. Has anyone else had to wait this long for the stitches to go away? I have a little pus from two different openings and it seems those stitches just don't want to go away!

Thanks,

Mari

I'm 5 months po and recently i've had a few stiches pop out. While I was trying to get under the stich to clip it, it pulled out, everything is healed so i'm sure it's not a big deal. A few weeks later I found another opening where the stick was poking out, so i went ahead and pulled it out too. I can feel along the scar line some of the sutures haven't yet dissolved. I'm not sure how long this takes, or if they will begin to pop out too.

Thanks for sharing. I had a pretty long piece come out of my MT incision today, but the booby ones are holding strong! Sigh.... I guess my surgeon ties good knots!

Theoretically, according to the suture manufacturers, it takes from 70 to 90 days for the stitches to absorb. But there are always annoying stragglers!
