Tynette, I don't understand. Do they look like your nipples before surgery or are you saying that it doesn't look like aerola tissue at ALL?!

Hmmm I am not a Dr but from what I read in my BR book (When less is More) it sounds like your PS did nipple grafting which is complete removal of the nipple from the underlying tissue to reposition it. That is when your nipple gets lost. I hope I am wrong. Did you talk to your PS about this and what did he/She say?
I did it! Yes I did! Feb 12 - a day I went from 38GG to a 38C/D all in 3.5hrs lol.

no nipples

Postby tynette76 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 4:41 pm

yes my nipples were removed the DR. said they had to reposition them because my breasts were so large. I was a 50dd and now i am a 36c.before the surgery i had large nipples.now i dont have any at all.my entire breast is rounded and the area were the nipples should be is pink the color hasn't even appeared back.there isn't any kind of buldge. I LOVE THE SIZE OF MY BREASTS,but the nipple area is as smooth as a babies bottom seriously!

Here is an excerpt from the BR book I used - When Less is More by Bethanne Snodgrass MD

"If your nipples were removed completely and sewn back on (free nipple grafting), they will almost certainly be numb and permanently flattened after surgery. Partial loss of nipple color (depigmentation) can occur in any breast reduction patient and may be temporary or permanent. Free nipple grafts almost always depigment and become permanently pink or splotchy in color."

Hope that helps with explanation. Your PS should have told you what to expect with the free nipple graft option.

Cheers.

Good info, Smilee....

I'm still a little confused though. I have gone from a K (yes, it's true, they make a K although not in the US so much), and my nipples were removed and then reattached. I am lucky in that I have complete feeling in them, but I could tell that they were nipples right after surgery. I mean, you can see the actual nipple. Yes, they were flat at first, and the color is still splotchy pink, but I could definitely tell they were my nipples!

I guess the only way to know is to ask the PS...

I had very large breasts also. My left nipple is now very small, but has feeling. My right one on the other hand, I can not feel it no matter what I do to it! It is soooooooo dead. I get upset sometimes because I miss my normal sized nipples that I COULD feel, but then I think how it could have been worse and not be able to feel either one. Who knows? The way this crazy recovery goes.......you may wake up in a month or so with BOTH nipples suddenly standing in complete attention  Hope I helped some.

I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A PERIOD OF TIME FOR RECOVERY WITH ANY SURGERY PROCEDURE. THAT IS ONE REASON WHY I WASNT CONCERNED ABOUT THIS AT FIRST. BUT AFTER 9MONTHS POST OP,I AM REALLY CONCERNED.I WAS TRYING TO GIVE MY BODY TIME TO HEAL AND MAYBE GET BACK TO NORMAL.AS SMILEE KINDLY POINTED OUT FOR ME,MY PS SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED TO ME ABOUT (FREE NIPPLE GRAFTING). WHICH I ADMIT I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT. THE PS EXPLAINED TO ME THE PROCEDURE THAT WAS BEING DONE,BUT I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THERE COULD BE A RISK THAT MY NIPPLES WOULDN'T GROW BACK.IN FACT,I WAS TOLD AT MY SECOND VISIT,THAT THEY JUST TAKE TIME TO POP BACK OUT!THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TOLD,SO I'VE BEEN WAITING.

FNG

Postby Louissa » Fri Feb 27, 2009 12:29 am

I had the FNG also.

My ps told me that they will never be hardened or erect like they were before surgery. I understood and accepted that.

A few weeks ago, the righty WOKE UP. It wasnt like it was before, but it was more erect than it was expected to be after surgery.

I dont have feeling in them, but that is ok I am just glad they are alive with color.

While this doesn't address the issues of sensation or dimension, I know that women can have the color restored to the areolae by tattooing. It is often done when a woman has reconstruction after mastectomy. My surgeon's office even has a full-time nipple tattooist!

I think that everyone is different I had my BR six weeks ago, I was a 36DD now I am a C cup swollen, my nipple were extremly large so the the only way to make it look normal was removing the entire nipple and repostiton it, I still have my nipples and I have feeling in both of them, at first the left one was a little numbness, but the right side is really sensible than the left side, after a week the left side started to feel more and now is almost as normal as it was, but my right nipple was very sensible that I did not want to even touch it, now it feels normal, they took more tissue from my left breast because it was bigger than the right, not everyone will lose sensation or their nipple with Free Nipple Grafting, I still have them.

I intend to have reduction surgery and would love it if my nipples became completely flattened. I was considering having them left off altogether and perhaps just having them tattooed, as I HATE wearing a bra. I dream of the freedom of going braless, and would never wear one if there's no risk of being nipply or bouncy.
