I am 8 days post-op on my breast reduction. I have been anxious with this 'recovery period' and just ready to be done with it ya know? (impatient)
Some of my steristrips had come off on their own already. So I thought 'lets try another.' then 'another' then I pulled them all off.
I told my husband and he said "you weren't suppose to do that. call your surgeon's office."
So I did and they said "you weren't supposed to do that. come in so we can look at it."
So.... I get to take my 1st post-op drive to my surgeon's office here in about an hour. From what i read on this site I shouldn't have been able to get them off as easily as I did.
It was a dumb thing to do I'm sure. But I am one that can't even wear fingernail polish because I will peel it off. I can't stand something stuck on me.
Nurse asked me if the wounds look opened. I said I didn't think so. No bleeding. But just to make sure I'm having her look at them. Hopefully she will just tape me up again and no harm done. I will report back.
Be nice to have clean ones on anyway b/c the old ones had dried up yack under them. SO i will report back tonight and let you know how much trouble I have caused.
Good News! No harm done. I didn't have any open areas. The nurse fussed at me a bit and then put them back on.
I learned my lesson though because... she had to spray my boobs with some adhesive 1st. #1 it stung a little and #2 it caused my surgical bra to stick to my boobs! Argh. So that was fun getting off when I got home.
It was reassuring to be seen one week post-op vs 2 weeks as originally planned. Just for her to say they look good and all is well is a huge relief. I promised her that I will not touch the tape again until they say I can.
She answered some of my questions about 'is this normal bruising?' etc... However she said the 'bloating' in my tummy isn't so much the surgery as me laying around for a week eating ice cream! Ugh Time to start taking some walks. She said walking will speed up recovery! Yeah. I'm all for that.
I am grateful to find this site to talk to other ladies in my shoes. My friends and poor dear husband are I am sure sick of me talking about my boobs.
Mary, I can't help but laugh. You are a hoot. I'm the same way about things sticking to me....wet sand, grasshoppers, junebugs...We have a planned family vacation on the beach this summer, but personally I am dreading the raw rub of sand that is inevitable when going to the beach. I've been pulling up many online stores in search of bathing suits I could only imagine before of ever wearing and now can since my August "09 reduction. Thank goodness things are healing for you and no openings were under those strips. It's great now that spring is here and you'll be able to do that walking. I wish you speedy healing and patience.....lol Tami
Hey Tami, Oh I HATES June Bugs. They would always get in my hair. I grew up in Texas on a big farm. I would catch them and feed them to the big toads that came out at night. Since moving to Ohio in 2004 I haven't seen many June bugs so that is one good thing. However... its March 28th and I look outside this morning and it had SNOWED over night. So much for a walk today I did so good yesterday but have felted exhausted all day today. I'm cold, I'm hot, I'm hot, I'm cold... And my incisions ITCH!!!! Its been 9 days since my surgery. WHEN am I going to feel normal again???? I'm on yahoo if you want to chat. texan4ever62 Mary
WEll aren't you the lucky one to have got away from them then....They'll be flitting around my back porch light soon enough...(shiver). Since you are a fellow native and from a farm at that then you know what a tank is. Well my childhood summers involved going out to the tank and of course it would be way off back in some pasture and the grass would be high enough to slap your face thru the car window. Those two-three inch long grasshoppers were the bain of my existance. Today we had awesome weather and as far as snow.....WEll the day we had snow here I fell and broke my tailbone. I hope your week gets sunnier and your healing progresses......ohhhhhhh and I knew you had asked a question. LOL" Normal "for me was around 4 to 6 weeks. I slept on my side and without a bra in the third week. Right now you are going to probably feel very restricted in activities and movements. But time will pass and soon you'll be months past the surgery itself and going about your business like any other able bodied person. I will caution on trying on clothes. I went thru my closet and drawers having a blast seeing my smaller bust in tops that had previously been stretched to the limit before. I'd be weak and wore out after 20 minutes and need to rest. As they say ...try not to lift in the first weeks. Blow drying my hair....forget it. LOL So keep on keepin on. I'd def like to yak with you. I'll send you a line soon. ohh and the itching may be the incisions healing.....could even be the hot spells.....depends on where the itch is....lol . I used to itch up underneath my breasts when I'd get hot and perspire.
Well I got to get goin and fix supper, Have a great weekend,
