Is benadryl OK before surgery?

Do any of you have benadryl on your "do not take before surgery" list?

It is not in mine, but I know some of you have received longer lists. I am having trouble sleeping and wanted to take some tonight before bedtime.

Nightpearl......I would follow your physician and anesthesiologist's instructions. Every physician has a slightly different opinion and his/her experience to rely on. If you are speaking of the night prior to surgery, then I probably wouldn't take it.

Here is a link to the most complete list of OTC products--as well as herbs--that I have ever seen. It doesn't specifically exclude Benedryl, but does mention allergy relief medicines as a category.

Thank you :( I just called my PS and the nurse told me no as well. Last night was worse. My neighbor has this new dog (cocker spaniel) and they have decided to leave the poor thing outside at night. That dog barked and howled from 12AM to 3 AM. I thought it would never end. It also kept my daughter up. I hope tonight is not as rough. Ill try some warm milk tonight since it seems to be the only thing not on the list :)

LMAO, You are too funny. I wish I could cause that dog is not happy at night. I think it needs that Ativan anxiety pill the PS gave me too.

The poor pooch thought it was going to sleep inside untill my neighbors failed to get it house broken.
