Allergic reaction to TCA peel

Allergic reaction to TCA peel

Postby tatrtot » Thu Sep 21, 2006 5:47 pm

So I went to see my derm today as part of my neck cracked and started bleeding- it seems that I had an allergic reaction to something in the peel. He put me on some meds that will hopefully help rectify the problem and the pain will decrease (he gave me vicodin also-yipee!). Now I'll just cross my fingers I don't scar from the cracking. Learned the hard way to do a patch test!

Woke up this am and wow! I feel so much better after taking the cortisone meds! No need for the Vicodin at all, I'm so happy! Also, my face has really been peeling- my derm emphasized over and over to apply vaseline/aquaphor constantly and thickly- and NEVER let it dry out. This seems to be making peeling much easier- when I wash my face it takes a very light rub and it is sliding right off- can't wait to post my photo today! :D

It's also under this site's photo collection under 'chemical peel'
I also posted a photo of my new puppy just because I like showing her off and she's been keeping me company- can't wait to take her to the dog park again!

Thank you so much for sharing!

I can SEE that your skin will be radiant once the peeling is complete! your spots are gone!

How are you feeling???

I'm feeling pretty darn good! Can't wait to go outside but there's no way that my skin would tolerate any sunblock yet. My neck is still funky and little patches on my face but I'm amazed how different I look today compared to 48 hours ago. Now, to attack all of this Vaseline that I've gotten all over the house :?

hey thanks for sharing your photos it looks like you got great results! I did a weak home tca peel and had a weird, itchy reaction on my neck too but I didn't get results anything like you did. I should try to find a doctor in my area to perform a more intense tca peel. Did you prep your skin with retin-a or anything before hand?

Hi GLT- I did about 4 weeks of Retin A Micro which I just used at night mixed in with my regular moisturizer. I noticed you have already done a patch test so you know your reaction to the TCA, so I would highly recommend the professional peel. My derm told me that the strength he used on my neck was actually a lot lower than what he put on my face (I didn't get what it was). Thanks for the complements on my progress, I'm so excited to go out and show my friends!

Went to my derm for a follow up appt today- he took a sample of a part of my skin with a q-tip and it began to bleed- hope it doesn't scar  . I have a question for you ladies----how long after a peel should I wait before using hair dye? It seems like some of the acid did go onto my scalp as it was peeling in the front and I would hate to have another reaction.......

Check with your doctor for sure- I would think 4 weeks post peel should be fine- you will certainly be re-epithealized by then and your acid mantle (protective barrier in the skin) will be restored. You can do a patch test to be sure you are fine with it.

If you don't wear your hair pulled back and/or you have bangs, you could try dying it but keeping the hairline around your face protected with vaseline.

Also, if you you use a demi-permenant hair color (no ammonia) you should be ok- permenant hair color has ammonia in it and it is more irritating.

For the future, it's a good idea to do a good dye job just before the procedure :).
