preping for 30 % TCA

preping for 30 % TCA

Postby garotadeipanema » Sun Jan 01, 2012 9:56 am

Hi everybody!
Can someone point me in the right direction as to what prep I need days prior to a 30% TCA? I have been using /1% Tretnoin on/off for 5 years, although not in the last several months. I just did 2 glycolic (70%) two days in a row within the last 5 days (was it too much?) my facial skin is lightly peeling and rough on the forehead. On the chest though,I got a bad burn, red spots, blisters. So I will do nothing on the chest for a while, but how should I proceed with the face? Use retin a every day for 7 days prior to TCA or lay off retin A for 7 days prior to TCA? Does that apply to Obagi clear as well? Should I wait i week to have TCA after glycolic or not? I've been using TNS complex which I believe contains retinols also. Thank You guys!

Is this your first TCA? Why do you want to go so strong? That is a VERY strong peel.

I think you need to give your skin a rest. Doing two GA peels in a row would not help your skin, as if your skin is not recovered from the first peel, you are only inviting problems by further inflaming the skin. The skin needs time to heal properly. I think you will do more harm than good doing these peels too close together.

It is best to give your skin a good 5-7 days without RA before a TCA, if your skin is not used to continual use of RA. If it is, then I have read that 3 days is good.

I would not do any peels at all for a good week after the last one, and if you are still experiencing any peelies on your face, then hold off til those are completely gone. (at least 6 weeks in between strong TCA peels, but a week in between GA peels, unless still peeling.)

I would also hold off on the Clear for a week. Just don't put anything on with any actives in it.

It is better to start with lower strength peels and layer them, rather than higher strength. I know it is tempting to want to start higher, and we all want immediate results, but harming the skin will just set you back. If you get a bad burn it will be a very long time til you can use anything on your skin again!

Be careful!
