Hi guys, well yesterday I finally took the plunge and had a chin implant, buccal fat pad extraction, and under chin/neck lipo. I wanted to share my experience with all of you who are contemplating such surgery but are unsure.
I realise I am only day 1 post up, but I must admit the whole experience has been over rated. After the operation I woke up with a headache, but besides that I had no pain at all...zero, not even discomfort. I did have a numbed lower lip chin which I beleive was a local anesthetic, but this wore off about an hour after I woke up from the operation. Since then I have had full feeling in my lower lip. My chin implant was an external incision so this could explain why I am not getting the numbness many talk about. While I am sure I have some swelling, it is not hugely noticable...perhaps this will kick in on day 3. Bruising is very minimal at this stage...once again, perhaps this will come later. My only gripe is sleeping elevated on my back...I have always been a side sleeper.
For those of you who are interested, feel free to ask me any questions. I am going to write a detailed blog with before and after photos documenting my entire experience so others know what to expect.
Regards
Brad
Note: These photo's we're taken same day, about 3 hours after surgery
Thanks for the compliment...so far I am happy with the results, and its only been a day. I am sure things will improve as the swelling subsides...I'm not sure if we are allowed to name surgeons on the forum. He is in Sydney, Australia...PM me if you still want his name
WOW! u look great! and i guess it keeps getting better from here for u....
i am contemplating an implant and buccal fat extraction but i wish my experience to be as painless as yours!
Thanks kukee5, I was actually expecting the buccal fat pad extraction to be uncomfortable...but I don't feel any discomfort from it. I can feel the stitches with my tongue. The doc said I will not notice the results of the buccal pad removal until 6 months.
Well, I am now at day 6 post Op, and as expected swelling around the lipo suction area has increased. I had my first post op appointment with my surgeon, and he said everything was looking good. I have finally finished working on my blog for anyone who wants to monitor my recovery process, and experience - My Chin Implant Blog
Very good results. You don't look swollen at all. Your jawline looks so much better and so does your neck. Congratulations.
I have read your blog and found it interesting, especially what you write about feeling guilty. I think somehow plastic sugery is still taboo. People usually don't disapprove of those who buy expensive cars because they think they'd better send the money to third world countries... What's the difference?
Well my PS didn't go into details either. I had this surgery done abroad so I thought it was just one of the little drawbacks of spending less...but now I know this has nothing to do with the price !

Hi GreenWildCat, thanks for your kind words. I hear your point about people spending money on expensive cars...it is really no different.
May I ask what country you had your surgery done in? Are you happy with the results??
I had the surgery done in Tunisia ( I am french).
It is becoming a very popular destination for people in southern europe who want to have plastic surgery but are on a tight budget.
Am I happy with the results ?
It is still too early to tell.
I actually also had a nose job. I had a large, over projected nose and a weak chin, so my profile was really ugly to start with!!!
In my late thirties, I started to develop a bit of a double chin and a "turkey neck" too, although I wasn't fat at all and had never been.
Now I have a perfectly balanced profile, this part of the surgery is a total success;
But I think the surgeon has been too conservative with my nose , and I have issues with my chin : the right side is OK, but the left one looks weird.
There is a girl here on the message boards who's had chin surgery and who complains about the implant making her chin look like a golf ball , and I find the comparison very appropriate in my case too !
I just cross my finger and hope this is due to uneven swelling/ healing.
Anyway, it seems like we women are more in trouble with chin implants. Maybe it is a psychological thing, I don't know.
BTW I had intra oral incisions and I have heard there is more sweeling than with sub mental ones.
Hope you are recovering well and enjoying your brand new chin !!!
I just have to pop on here and say that I think you look GREAT! I had a consult for a TT with MR and BL/BR and a chin implant and lipo under neck. I can't afford it all right now, but have been thinking about going and getting the chin and neck done now... waiting until later to do the other. Your results are so great that you are making me want to call the PS 2morrow! Congrats and I look forward to more pictures!
I think having plastic surgery abroad is becoming popular. Here in Australia Thailand is the country of choice. Travel Agents are even doing package deals where you combine your holiday/plastic surgery in one... crazy! As for quality of the surgery...well this has been debatable..apparently there is a lot of revision surgery going on once the patient/vacationer arrives home I think cheap surgery can be a false economy at times...but I am sure there are many who have had great success.
As for your chin implant being assymetrical, I think this is pretty normal for the first few months? It would be unusual for the both sides of the chin to heal at the exact same pace...especially when subjected to different levels of force and trauma. (who knows what the Surgeons do to get that implant in whilst we are sleeping ) When I was researching chin implants, this was one thing I heard a lot. My Chin has more swelling/numbness on the left side...where the right side feels totally normal. My chin was assymetrical to begin with, so I have not idea how mine will turn out once swelling has settled.
Keep us up to date with your recovery, and post some pics! Sometimes we are our own worse critics
Hi Packgirls, thanks for the compliments! Good to hear I have given you some inspiration to get yours done
Watchthemoon, I am not 100% sure about the implant type. I figured I would get to choose the size and shape..but my surgeon did all this for me. I am pretty sure he mentioned he would use a silicon implant with wings, size large, and carved down to fit my face shape.
I am off to see him in a couple of hours...I will try and find out exactly what type of implant he used.
I will also add some new photos for those that are interested- I am exactly one week post op today.
But I have a stupid question....I've beem researching rhino more than chin implants so I dont really know much about them....I thought that Chin implants required a cast? splint? something that covers it for a few days and is then removed? (like in rhino?)...or that's not the case here?
