Should I Get Surgery? (Pictures)

Hey,

I agree your chin doesn't look receded in the picture. I have a similiar face to ur in that from the front and at a side I feel I have nice face (well I liked it anyway) & doesn't look receded. But I have a receding chin - very obvious from the side profile........I have had a genioplasty - which is where they cut the chin and bring it forward and then use screws and plates to hold it in its new place. I needed 10mm but the surgeon brought it forward as much as he could. The side looks better but...........

The sad bit is my face looks too long...........i really don't like it at all. So my only advice to u is really understand how it will effect ur from profile.......... I am now seeking a reversal x : ( I used a very good surgeon but the outcome was I look like a totally diff person, feel my face more masculine cus of the long chin (gives my face a longer look).

I also read alot of positive stories and not really anyone stating that it may look nice from side but at the cost of the front profile....

I'm not trying to put u off, but it is reversable..........obviously the surgery needs to be done by a max-facio and one that is very good as nerve damage is a risk.

Best of luck in making ur decision. This is another opinion and something to also consider in making ur decision.

x : )

I think you have a cute pixie look. If you have surgery it could change. Just remember you can never go back to exactly the way you looked presurgery if you don't like it. Just smile and and think most people are probably envious of your perfect nose.

seekingyuradvice; I'm sorry to hear that you are looking into getting a revision... that must be tough. I'm sure you had really high hopes going into the surgery so I can understand your frustration. I'm definitely still pondering what to do... it's such a big decision!

And I never really thought that I couldn't go back to looking like I did before. In some ways I like how I look but in others I don't. I tend to only look good/picture well from certain angles or I can look entirely different. I'm glad people are fond of my nose though! haha :)

Your chin looks a lot stronger in the photo where you have a broad smile because your chin muscle flexes and projects outward. You actually have a pretty large muscle down there. I experienced the same phenomenon. For years I deluded myself into thinking it wasn't that bad, all I had to do was smile all the time! Didn't work. Didn't want to look like Jack McBrayer with a goofy grin all the time trying to disguise my weak chin (and my teeth are not nearly as nice as his). Don't delude yourself into thinking that your picture smiling is how people perceive you, you spend only about 1% of your time smiling like that.

After the implants I have to have botox (just a few units) in my chin to calm it down because with a normal size chin its hyperactivity now looks goofy.

Hi missmariedawn,

Thanks, well its just another experience and insight and i would never have done it if I had been shown this is what u would look like front profile post op.

Well best of luck in deciding, and as long as u have a good surgeon this should reduce the other risks ie nerve damage etc that also come along with genio, but these are considered as rare or few - per say surgeons.

Ya I'm worried that after the implant/genio that when I smile I'll look like Jay Leno and I definitely don't want that. I'm such an indecisive person and I'm having troubles looking for surgeons. Now I'm looking into maxillofacial surgeons instead of plastic surgeons. Aye yi yi!

Just a question. You said your cousin had his jaw done and 'he looked like an entirely different person' Is that in a good way or bad as you did not state. I am assuming it is possible that he has the same bone structure as you?

In a good way! His bone structure isn't exactly the same as mine though... he needed the surgery for his teeth and stuff too. But he looked great after it... just different.

So you should probably use his surgeon too. What type of surgery did he have and how much in total did it cost him? Did he have any bite issues or was it only cosmetic?

Only if you bear in mind that your body might reject the implant. My mother has been in horrific pain due to an implant in her chin. It was finally removed at the age of seventy - now the burning sensation has gone away. I think you are a very attractive young lady and you should love yourself the way you are. I hardly noticed the chin. Trust me, I had rhinoplasty when I was young and I wish I had never done it.

The OP created this thread over a year ago and hasn't posted since then. It's obvious she's happy with her new implant. :D

I don't think the OP needs surgery, her side profile is great! She has one of the cutest nose. :D

What about now? I hope she is happy the way she is, surgery or not.

Really hope this girl didn't get an operation. She doesn't need one.
