Brachioplasty next week - smoking

Postby sakurasanta86 » Sun May 06, 2018 9:12 pm

Hey, first of all I want to introduce myself. My name is Nicole and I had a Breast Lift/Augmentation and Lower Body Lift back in September (after losing 80 lbs over the course of 3 years - on my own, no gastric bypass) with amazing results. I have smoked since I was 15 and am now 43. I "quit" 4 weeks before and after the surgery and healed beautifully. I say "quit" because I did cheat about once a week during those 4 weeks before but not during the 4 weeks after. My surgeon said that my scars are some of the best he's ever seen at this stage of recovery.

I'm scheduled for a brachioplasty on Tuesday and like I mentioned before, I only quit for those 8 weeks. I started back smoking 4 weeks after but never resumed to the level of smoking I was at before the surgery. He told me to quit again 2 weeks before the brachioplasty and for the most part I did. But I have cheated and smoked 3 times since Monday of this week. I'm 5 days from surgery and do plan on telling them that I cheated a few times. Last time I didn't cheat at all for the 7 days leading up to surgery. He has never said that he would not do the surgery if I didn't quit or that he would test for nicotine (cotinine) before the surgery.

My question is this, is 5 days long enough for the nicotine to be out of my system and are those 3 cigarettes enough to cause me to have poor healing or problems under anesthesia? I'm so mad at myself! These scars are more important to me than the others because they will be arm pit to elbow and visible. Is necrosis as common with an arm lift as it is with a breast lift?

Please no judgement as I'm already my own worst critic, just looking for input or anyone who has gone through something similar.
Thank you!
