Bumps and Lumps after Face lift

Bumps and Lumps after Face lift

Postby newpat » Fri Jul 04, 2008 9:28 am

Hello dear friends.
I am posting this question and not even being sure if this is the right place to ask this questions.
I had a brow lift, neck lift with lipo and chin implant 2 weeks ago.
I am healing well considering that the post op discomfort was even worse than when I had a cesarea.
I have developed a 1/2 inch fat line, like a lump under my left chin. My doctor told me to massage it 4x a day with my finger and that it would dissolve. I also have it a bit bruised.
The other thing is that I have these very fine lines that have formed at the bottom of both cheeks. I imagine they are due to the stretching of my sking towards my ears to correct my double chin.
If anyone has any comments or advice, PLEASE let me know. I just do not want to be the only one experiencing these rarities on my face. I pray that they will really go away.
thank you to all of you beautiful friends.

Neck Bumps

Postby poodlemomi » Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:26 pm

I had a necklift revision 2&1/2 weeks ago with a sling suspension and have the identical bumps and stretching skin Newpat is describing. I was told they will go away..I am also very nervous about it..and it hurts! I feel better knowing someone else is experiencing the same symptoms..I think it lends credence to it being a normal part of the healing process. My doctor put me on antibiotics because one of the lumps is hot and burns..he feels it could be an infection..who knows..meanwhile I'm in a cranky, sad, scared mood..and I think I'm driving my family crazy :(

HELLO POODLEMOMI!
I thank you for your prompt response. I can´t believe that it is just the 2 of us with the bumps. To tell you the truth, I am paranoid about it that I have been researching the web and reading many blogs and forums. Well, I have found that we are not alone, other people mention the bumps and lumps and that their doctors have told them to massage them and they would go away, but no one really says how long they lasted, or any more details about it. You know, when you´ve had to go through a procedure such as this to correct some imperfections, you want great results and bumps and lumps are not what we expect. If I have any more responses or comments, I will make sure to pass them on to you.

Love,
Pat

I'm at 5 weeks with plenty lumbs and bumps. Yep, seems pretty normal but depressing.

My doctor and nurses assured me that in about 3 months all would be gone. He did inject something into some of the worst ones last Monday - cortison? steroids? not sure I remember what it was he said. He did my eyelids, bigger bumps on jowls and on the neck. It's just takes time - way more than you think.

I ranted about this on another thread http://messageboards.makemeheal.com/vie ... hp?t=90414
which is why I didn't post on this thread. I'm sure everyone is starting to get sick of me whining when it looks so good on the surface.
Continued good thought on everyone's healing process. I'm so glad to have this forum too!!

MY BUMPS AND LUMPS AFTER FACELIFT

Postby newpat » Sat Jul 05, 2008 5:05 pm

>yarah!
thank you so much for responding so quickly. Well let me tell you. i went to my doctor this morning, i couldn´t wait until next wed. to ask him about the lump. if this makes you feel better, he assured me, and i believed him, that they would go away. he said that nothing had gone wrong during surgery, he has performed thousands of the same kind, (and i have read about him, plus, have of my college g-friends have gone under the knife with him and are SUPER HAPPY.). He said to wait, have patience, everyone heals differently, and that he does not want to do anything to it because time will take care of it better than with any intervention. so needles to say, i feel better. I am just massaging it in circular motion 4,5x a day and with God´s help it will heal well.
I hope this helped you and anyone who is a bit concerned about the darn lumps and bumps. i also wish you a beautiful and peaceful recovery.
Than goodness for this FORUM... i love it. PLEASE , write to me anytime you feel down.. and want to throw me a line.
LOVE,
paty

my neck lift was 3 weeks ago

Postby RedDragoniv » Sat Jul 05, 2008 10:34 pm

and YES I have the same lumps and tight numbness. I hate it. My Doc after 2 weeks pulled blood out of the one area. Basically calling it a clot that he can remove. Its still there and he also mentioned massaging. So I have been using ice packs and also a vibrator massager and it seems to help lossen things up a bit. I just hate the tight numbness and wish I knew ahead of time that it would last for months and not weeks. I am getting tired of the feeling and want to feel my face again.
Anyone else have numbness????

Numbness? OMG - can I rant some more? Besides lumps and bumps, numbness is another thing I guess I was in denial about. Again - I'm hearing you will be numb but I'm thinking the 2 week mantra again. Well, last visit to doctor and now I'm hearing numb for 6 to 12 months. At 5 weeks my neck is tight but numb at the same time, cheeks are numb & one ear is numb. It's all numb behind my ears and in front of my ears. I'm doing the massaging too - 3 times a day. Is this just to give us something to do or does it really speed things along? Who knows? I'm resigning myself to be face-ilicious so I will do everything and anything to make the outcome as good as possible. I'm just amazed at how face focused I have to be. It seems I'm just a face tender now with a face thing to do every hour. I guess I'll get over my amazement and just do it like I brush my teeth BUT right now I'm tired of being an attendant to my face. Sigh.

I'm 9 weeks today and still have lumps, bumps, and numbness. My cheeks are very lumpy. One ear is numb and my cheeks and neck are very tight feeling. Do I look better at 9 weeks than before surgery? Nope, not yet.

Plus, I was in the 1% who ended up with nerve damage. The right side of my mouth droops, which makes eating and drinking a challenge. Supposedly, 99% of the time the nerve regenerates. I'm still waiting.

I get it that people heal differently. I'm just trying to be patient. I'm praying the outcome makes this ordeal worth it.

8 weeks post op for me and have lumps & bumps on my neck and under the sides of my chin...cheeks are very numb...my Dr never mentioned massaging the lumps, so I doubt it does any good, but what do I know? I AM beginning to be pleased with the results, but like we all learn: it does take MONTHS to see the full result...my Dr says 6 months....so let's all hang in!!

lump under chin and a bull frog throat

Postby lynnypoopoo » Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:01 am

HELP?? I have been reading and researching and bugging my Dr. and NO ONE seems to have my problem or knows what to do about it! I had a lower face lift and neck lift using the pursestring lift for the neck. Also called a Platysmal plication or platysmalplasty. Everything seemed fine till about 9 days post-op I developed a seroma. A seroma in case you are not familiar, is a collection of fluid and it is either absorbed by the body or is drained out manually, sometimes drains are placed after surgery but this is done typically for mastectomies or tummy tucks. Seromas are rare even in those surgeries and really rare in face/neck lifts. In my case after several days of swelling the fluid all came seeping out of my sutures under my chin. the small amount of remaining fluid was manually drained by the Dr when he returned from his vacation. What is left behind is a thick fibrous ball of tissue under my chin. I am 7 weeks post op and the ball of tissue swells up and subsides at will. If I eat too much salt it swells, if I exersize too much it swells, if I have sex it swells, if I sleep it swells. also, the incision is still irrated looking and here is the really weird part that no one has had, when I talk, sing, whistle, or even merely clear my throat, my throat bulges out like a bull frog and from the side I have a double chin where as before my surgery I had a flat chin and a good jawline. My skin in the lower face was beginning to get a bit saggy but no jowls unless I was looking down. I got the neck plication to correct the cords that were beginning to show. Not for a double chin or hanging neck flesh. So even when my hard lump of tissue is not swollen and I get my chin/jawline to lay flat, after massaging it, and compressing it, and eating nothing but green tea and pineapple juice, as soon as I talk it bulges out just like a bull frog. I can literally take a photo profile where I look all healed and good with a nice flat chin and then take a second profile photo while speaking that looks like my chin goes at a 45 degree angle and is bulging like a bull frog. Has anyone seen this? My Dr doesn't know what to do as he has never seen it before. Any help suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. I also have what appears to be a stitch working it's way toward the surface of my skin. The Dr used a permanent suture in the deep plane of the platysmal plication. I am allergic to most everything and am concerned I may be allergic to the sutre he used and that my body is reacting and staying irritated and swollen because of the sutre, I am afraind the large ball of tissue is a granuloma and I am experiencing suture rejection. Any thoughts?

I had a suture granuloma form around a permanent suture after a lid suspension. It wasn't huge; kind of like a large pimple. It sounds like this might be what's going on, or you may have a fluid-filled cyst. Is your doctor willing to go in under your chin and take the suture and lump out and have it biopsied? If it is a foreign body reaction, supposedly it won't go away until you remove the foreign body.

Maybe he could try a different type of suture, if you really HAVE to have one in there?

I just looked up "seroma" on the internet, and one article said applying heat can make the body resorb it faster.

I m 6 weeks post op from comprehensive fl with u/l blephs. I too have lumps and bumps but finally they are getting very small. I have had several treatments by an accupuncturist and that has given me the most positive results of anything I have done.

Although my PS did not tell me, a friend MD told me *moist heat* is the best thing for dissolving the lumps, which are actually hematomas. Just be careful and do not burn yourself as I did using a hand-held heat lamp/massager. Just use a wash cloth wrung out in very warm water and lay it on the hard or swollen areas for about three minutes. Wring it out in warm water and repeat. Do this 2 - 3 times a day. It does seem to help. Accupuncture works much faster though.

It seems that lots of patience is the most important thing!

I'm 13 wks po and am VERY concerned that I have "loose skin, double chin" look under my right side only! My ps says I'm still healing and she felt it and poked around, so I'll give it more time but am a little frustrated. It also seems that loose skin has "settled" on both corners of my face giving that "square face" look. I have an appointment tomorrow and will see what she says, but it looks to me that I need a little lipo to suck this annoying fat OUT!!!

lumps and bumps on neck under chin

Postby lynnypoopoo » Sun Aug 10, 2008 9:07 pm

Hi Saphireone9
thank you for your reply! I think I may have a granuloma surrounding a stitch that is inside the hardened lump under chin that is left over from the seroma. The fibrous tissues left after a sermoa have a mind of thier own! Mine swell up then go down then swell again but either way whether swollen or not i also have the added attraction of my throat bulgin out like a bullfrog when i speak, sing, whistle or clear my throat. It is quite the phenonenon. I am consulting with doctors and patients and no one seems to have seen this before. Please let know if anyone else has this? I also did not have a double chin prior to my surgery. I had a flat chin but was starting to see my neck cords and had some loose skin but no jowls yet. I am suffering greatly. The lumps hurt and I think the stitch is being rejecvted and adding to the pain from the fibrous tissue left over from the sermoa and all of that is separate from the bull frog phenomenon. I can literally take a profile photo after a lot of massage etc and when the swelling is gone for a minute wherte my chin looks flat and I look completely healed then at the same time same place take a second profil photo while talking or whistling and I look like jabba the hut. Bull frog throat with a huge bulge under my chin. My Dr wants to look inside this coming Friday but I am so worried with the scar tissue from the seroma I am afraid going back in will cause even more scar tissue. I wish I knew a good accupunturist. I can:t beleiev I am going through all this with my neck! I never even liked having my neck touched!!! it is so ugly and I it hurts too! the swellinng the tender lumps. The bull frog throat. It is soo depressing. Has anyone ever heard of the bull frog phenomenon???
