extreme swelling after lifestyle lift HELP

extreme swelling after lifestyle lift HELP

Postby goldiestar » Sun Sep 06, 2009 10:08 am

I had a miniface lift 4 days ago and am extrememly swollen, hard and bruised. Went back to Dr. the day after because I thought Ihad hematomas. Was seen by the nurse, no md. My face has gone down a little bit but is so tight and the areas in front of both ears down to my neck are hard to touch. I have been icing but little relief. I cant believe this, I cant take a month off of work and am a flight attendant. Dont know what I am going to do. Will light rebounding help the swelling? (mini trampoline?) Any advice?

Please relax and remember all this is normal. I had an s lift and lipo to my jowls and neck august 7. You will be amazed at how the healing process takes place. Things can change over night. I am 4 weeks post op and the tightness has reduced to the point where i forget i had a fl. I remember the hardness in front of the ears and it freaked me out too. It will get softer every week but i am still very numb in front of the ears and i have some swelling left ( only visible to me). I went back to work after 3 weeks and nobody has said anything except for one comment on the remaining bruising on my cheek. I am told things can take up to 4 to 6 months for the final results. Be assured that every day you will look and feel better!!!

Hi ladies,
Littlesassy has give good advice above me.

You need to relax and stay away from miror. Rest and healing need to take place sometimes its weeks or months and everyone is different.

Keep icing, everyday will get better.

As far as returning to your flight attendant status, you may need at least 3 weeks before you look o.k. with makeup. When did the ps say you could return to your job?

You want the best possible healing so don't rush it. Maybe 4 weeks is better.

return to work

Postby goldiestar » Sun Sep 06, 2009 5:44 pm

Thanks for the info.
I was told that most people take a week off before returning to duty.
That was sooo misleading. I dont have the sick time nor the funds to take 3-4 weeks off. So, should not have done this without a month long vacation I see now. Hope I will heal quickly. Thanks again.

Hi Girls, I had my lift over 3 years ago and so far its still holding up, it takes a good 6 months for things to settle down properly although you can feel improvements day by day, don't be in a rush your body needs time to heal, patience is the key word.

post op recovery

Postby goldiestar » Fri Sep 18, 2009 3:58 pm

Thanks Chez,
You are right. I am only 18 days post op and am recovering well.
At first, I was shocked at the amount of swelling and bruising.
Still have bruises and numbness/hardness in front of ears and jaw area but very decreased now.
I am glad yours is still holding up after 3 years.
I just hope my skin doesn't stretch out and droop before the swelling
goes completely down. Looks good for now.
I had a mini lift (lifestyle lift) under local anesthesia. I hope it lasts.
Thanks again.

Hi
I am four days post op... I had an s lift which included my neck. I am very bruised under my eyes and very swollen although I did have bilateral hematomas the night after surgery. I seem to be healing well now but wondered how long I will feel this tightness in my jaw . How long does the swelling cause this feeling? I am wearing a jaw bra that was given by the doctor to wear which helps me feel better but when I take it off my skin feels so strange. Its numb and hard
Please someone ease my mind... thanks so much

Lyn,
it takes time to heal so don't rush yourself into your familiar routine. Everyone heals differently so be patient. If you have concerns, call the ps.

best,

Annie Thank you for your response. I guess I should have more patience since the surgery was only five days ago this morning.
I have a plugged ear because of the extreme swelling in my jaw area and a lot of bruising but otherwise I feel as if I could go back to my normal routine which is rediculous.
I am not one to sit still and I knew the recovery time would be the most difficult for me.
How long was it for you before all the bruising and swelling was gone? I am hopeful that within the next seven to ten days I will be looking as good as I feel, back into my exercise program, and working normally again. Thanks again for your message it helps to talk to someone about this.

Two weeks off work should be ok for a facelift. I had a full facelift and returned to work (on my feet) after 2 weeks. The first few days were exhausting, but it was doable. And I'm sure I still had swelling, but I did not look too strange. Remember having a few bruises still, mostly had sunk down with gravity onto my neck. I really felt pretty darn good after day 10. Good luck to all, you will feel and look better very soon!

I had a platysmaplasty (neck lift) and blepharoplasty (lower eyelid) 17 weeks ago today. The left side of my face is still swollen more than the right side and somewhat noticeable. My face basically looks fat. I can't wear my hair up because of the swelling, especially to my left ear. It is very large, semi-hard, painful, and the ear lobe hangs down more than the right ear lobe! Apparently the surgeon sutured the ear lobe to far and will later have to "snip" it...ok!!!!!! Because of the ear swelling and pain, i'm unable to use the telephone with my left ear...sounds a bit funny but very depressing to have uneven ear lobes. (yes, normal before surgery)
I can't really see the results from the neck lift yet because of the swelling. I still have a double chin. Surgeon wants to reevaluate in 2 months and decide if i need more liposuction to my neck. I have decided the pain is not worth a second go round...i still have tightness, which is mainly due to the swelling. Swelling starts from my ears, along the jaw line, then mid neck or adams apple area.
Every week seems a bit better, but I was initially told to expect swelling for 3 months also before seeing resutls. At my 3 month check up he then said 6 months.
I also have to use hydrocortiscone cream a few times a week because of itchy face and red dots or bumps that appear on my face along my jaw line, neck, and behind ears. Sounds like a reaction but surgeon doesn't know. Guess i should spend more money on a dermatologist.
Of the $10,000 it cost for both procedures, I am very pleased with my eyes. The lower lids are perfect.
Can someone out there tell me this is normal!!! Probably not...I just look forward to sleeping on my side with my face and ears not hurting from the pillows.
If you are still undecided about cosmetic surgery, then let me help you. DON'T DO IT!
