My Story

Postby lilly33 » Fri Jun 29, 2007 9:32 am

Hello there (sorry for the long read)
I read your post and felt compelled to reply. You have 30lbs to loose? I myself have lost 32 lbs. I understand how you could be feeling about having to loose 30lbs, it seems like a long hill doesn't it? People who have to loose 100lbs plus think or say that's nothing and you can do it. But the truth of the matter is it's all relative! I believe that it is just as hard emotionally to loose 30 as it is to loose 100 and that it can take as long to loose 30lbs. Having said that, it took me just about a year to loose 32lbs. For several years most of my 20's i was stuck with an extra 20-30lbs of weight (lucky for me it just stayed at that) After several attempts to have a baby the weight just became a part of me. Finally after the birth of my first (about a year) I decided enough was enough, but it felt like such a loooong road, i wanted to loose it quickly and i didn't want to kill my self at the gym doing it. So i turned to ephedra (sorry for the SP) based pills that i heard worked, this was after trying a diet health care professional, and some stints at the gym. It just felt to big of a mountain to climb. Besides who wants to see them selves at the gym in the mirrors among all the skinny and fit people right? Well the pills did work, I went from 160lbs to 130lbs. It felt so great and the nicest thing was, I hardly had to work for it. The weight stayed off for about a year and a half and then started creeping back after I stopped taking the pills. I had to stop taking them because it was getting harder and harder to buy them, and my family said they altered my moods so drastically, and I didn't like how they made me feel. I realized a while later it was hard to buy the pills because the Canadian Gov was making it harder to get them into the country due to the long term health risks and the possibility of death. That scared me enough to quit. I was sooo depressed about the weight coming back and once again felt that deep desperation .
We decided to have another child, I figured doing that I wouldn't be so focussed on this weight I was carrying around, i ended up putting another 10lbs back on on top of the 20 I had gained back after the pills. Only to find out that we lost the baby. This was my turning point! I thought to myself there is no way that I will go through another pregnancy fat and unfit and said that until I loose it there will be no baby and no sibling for our daughter (this was a big motivation) I dedicated my self to Weight Watchers, and at least 30 minutes a day of physical activity starting with walking (which eventually lead to more) I knew a friend that had lost over 100lbs on WW so I figured what did i have to loose except a few lbs and a few friends that I maybe could make along the way. I joined in May 2002 and lost about 6lbs only to realize this motivated a few girls in the office I worked with to join as well. Every one of us lost an enormous amount of weight together, and by Dec 2002 I made my goal and got my life time status. I started off a new year finally not making a resolution to loose weight, but a resolution to keep it off by changing my life style and to commit to my daughter to try for a sibling. I got pregnant that April and yes i had to loose the baby weight again, but i had the knowledge of WW and knew there was light at the end of the tunnel which I never believed before. This last Jan was 2 years that I have maintained my weight through watching what i eat (not attending WW again) because you end up knowing WW so well and really it is just good eating habits it's not like a diet at all, and I attended the gym regularly. I have actually learned to love exercise and can't imagine my life with out it. I will be running a 10km race this July and know it wouldn't have been possible with out changing my life style. I know it feels like surgery is the answer (and it is for people who have a tremendous amount of weight to loose) but it just is too drastic a measure for people like you and I, and I don't think a surgeon that's reputable any way would do a surgery for 30lbs. I totally understand that it seems like a lot of work but if you can get a good support team and you break your weight up into 5lb goals it is a little easier to see light at the end of the tunnel and every 5lbs is a success which keeps motivating you. I believe there is no easy way or quick fix to this problem, it takes goals and a bit of work to achieve the taste of thin. On another note I have a good friend who had Gastric Bypass and I supported her all the way, so it's not that I don't believe in it. She lost 166lbs but also worked hard doing it by exercising 6days a week and she ran a 1/2 marathon in May, it took her just as long to loose 166lbs as it took me to loose 32lbs. And we did the same things, I think the common denominator is diet and exercise for lasting and successful weight loss. I hope my story encourages you to reach deep with in your self to find what ever it is that can take you on a healthy and successful journey to FREEDOM.... If you need support and encouragement please feel free to PM me any time and I would be glad to help you out any way I can.
Yours truly

Lily33---Thank you so much for your post. I have the same problem; keep losing and gaining back the same 20+ lbs over the years and in between pregnancies.

I recently had a TT/MR with the hopes that it would motivate me to yet again loose that 20+, but alas, I have actually gained a few since my surgery, and now that I have the flat tummy, the fat has gone to my backside instead! I now have saddlebags worse than I had before and can't get rid of them.

I will definatly look into WW, but I'm wondering if that progam has been more successful than others like Nutra System and Jenny Craig? Are they pretty much the same?

Thanks again for your inspiring post.

YES!

Postby SoBeverlyHills » Sat Jun 21, 2008 5:10 pm

Hi! Iv been asking this question for a long time too. Look, losing wieght is a relative thing...It can be just as hard for someone to loose 30 pounds as it is for someone to loose 100 lbs.

we all know this, for sure! Iv know many friends, family and co-workers that have been trying to loose those same 20-40 lbs. for 20 fing years!!

Do they make it? Either no. Or they did only (like me) to ALWAYS regain it plus a little more. That really sucks too! Because it's not like all those years TRYING to loose those stupid pounds you were out eating every yummy delicious thing you wanted, no.... the opposite, we were working out some, restricting what we ate, so denying ourselves and still being HUNGRY and still these pounds stay on.

And then when menopause hits, I know im gonna gain another 40 pounds just like all the women in my family do.

So I was soooo happy when they came out with the gastric sleeve. It's supposed to be a two operation procedure for very overweight people but my surgeon says if your not that fat then you just get the first one.

Im already here in Tijuana and my procedure is on Monday June 23 and your supposed to stick with this 3 day diet before surgery and I cant even do that! Im starving! Iv been eating tacos and chips....

Im so sick of being SOOO SOO HUNGRY all the time! I want to be "just a wee bit hungry" think of how much easier it will then be to CHOOSE the right kind of food to eat and the right amount. This has haunted me. Im finally gonna be free of this.

Iv seen and talked to some of his other patients that were just a little overweight and they all loved the sleeve. they all said they feel and look great.

i'll keep you all posted on what happens with me :D :!:

There are new options. I am going to have the body jet liposuction followed by the Smartlipo to tighten the skin done in January. The center gives you an extensive program to following post op so you keep the weight off. let's face it - once your down to the size you wanted you are more motivated to keep it off. Giving it a try nothing else worked. Procedure is just a few hours and I will be down 2 sizes weeks. Pictures I saw of patients were great

Good luck with your weight loss. It isn't easy at all. I think I have been on a diet since 4th grade when my Mom took me to TOPS. If you do find a physician in this country or somewhere else who would consider doing surgery on you, please do your research. The thing that is most frightening to me is that there are no long term studies on what cutting or banding can do to you in the long run, since it is relatively new. Its one thing if your life depends on having surgery; you have no choice. It is hard to believe that there aren't some long term effects of bypass, lapband etc.

From what I understand, unless you can get to the root of why you overeat it will not matter what you do. Look at Carlie Wilson's struggles. I hope you find a program that works for you. You might want to google Brad Pilon's EatStopEat. It is a program of modified fasting one or two days a week (example-eat dinner on Monday at 6pm. Don't eat again until Tuesday 6pm) The rest of the week you eat normal. It takes the focus off of meal planning. I have done it and it isn't all that hard. I hope you find what works best for you!

“People may be attractive but they have crooked, discolored teeth, they don't smile in photos, they cover their mouth when they are speaking to people. It affects them in the workplace."
~ CNN.com
“The demand for tooth whitening has risen 300% in the past decade. Millions of Americans buy whitening products for a brighter, more dazzling smile.”
~ USA Today
During the AltaWhite photo shoot, Amy
—our featured model—told us that
she’s actually using AltaWhite herself!
So we thought we’d ask her some questions.
Dentists around the world are raving about the benefits that come from at-home teeth whitening systems. These systems can deliver whitening results similar to those you’ll get when you pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars at the dentist. You no longer have to go spend hours of your life and hurt your bank account to get white teeth. At-home systems can get you the same bright smile you’ll get at the dentist.

Dentists also recommend home whitening for the hygienic benefits that come from whitening your teeth. Polishing and scrubbing your teeth daily with the whitening applicator helps to break up plaque and can ultimately lead to healthier teeth along with a brighter smile!

I study in a health magazine that Glucagon and GLP-1 Peptide is one of medical way to lose weight, it is a type of injections, which we have to get weekly. The injections use a combination of two drugs to target two body systems. One targets the body's metabolism, speeding it up, while the other suppresses the appetite.
