Ledge - inferior PS technique?, etcDear Dr,
I am 3 months PO and have a ledge on both side sides. My PS said it is fat (which I hardly had any of anyway!), and if it is not smoothed out in time, he will lipo it. Questions: 1. Is a ledge (meaning fat, not swelling) a sign of poor technique by PS? I was told that it is avoidable if sx is done correctly. 2. If it is fat, can it really smooth out by itself or is lipo inevitable? 3. What is the downtime for lipo'ing 2 ledges? Is this done in office? Thank you so much. Slimm Facial PS 3/19/08!

Hi,
Half the reason I post here is to make information available for groups of users. Doing individual patient evaluations is like work. If you are reluctant to post images I understand. It is a private issue. Best Regards,

Hello,
Those "ledges" you are referring to are the continuations of the excess skin and fat past your incision line. This is a debatable point as some plastic surgeons believe that a tummy tuck incision stops at a certain point and some patients don't want any longer than a certain length scar. I make it a habit to talk about this stuff pre-op and ask patients their preferences. I design my operation depending upon the patient, what she wants corrected and what she is willing have done to correct it. At this point you could have extensions of your tummy tuck incision to remove this tissue. Lipo may take care of some of it, but the skin may hang a bit. Without examining you I can't tell this part. Best Regards,

Thank you so much, Dr, for your thorough and informative answer. I am unhappy about this, but now I understand. My PS told me to "give it more time" and see if it evens out, but I will assume that I will be having a revision. You have been a great help.
Sincerely, Slimm Facial PS 3/19/08!
