Laser for under eye crepey skin?

Postby slyefox » Thu May 18, 2006 8:08 am

I'm 34 and am tired of the skin under my eyes looking so crepey. No matter how much I moisturize, it makes no difference. I have heard that laser's may help, but I don't know much about them. Can anyone recommend what kind of laser or treatment is best for this? And what complications or downside there is (ie: can never go in the sun again because the skin will turn freakishly dark brown)? Thanks!! :?:

For me personally, the fraxel really helped the crepeyness under my eyes. I have had four and it is seven weeks since the last one.

The crepeyness wasn't horrible or anything, but everytime I looked in the mirror that is what I saw. I wore concealer, for dark circkles but it just lay in the all the creases.

It's hard to measure how much of an improvement as the before photos are too small, but it is significant enough that the concealer looks good now, not cakey.

Now when I look in the mirror I no longer focus on the crepeyness, I notice all the other telltale aging signs ....... how did they get there :-)??

There's a couple encouraging posts from people who have used lasers. Go to the chemical peel board and look at Lekat, she's done laser very recently. There's also a woman named Carly on the YTF board who had good results with fullface laser. The only complaint I've heard is you could loose some pigmentation and end up with light circlers around the eyes (not a problem for me, I'm very light). The eyes can look a little saggy due to lack of fat or puffiness also. So take some time to investigate all the options peels, lasers, and fillers can all have impressive outcomes.

Rosyface,
Its great to hear that your crepiness under your eyes in so much improved! I have been reconsidering Fraxel because it seems most people use it for acne scars or pigmentation issues. I really just want tighter skin, especially around my eyes, but am not ready for surgery yet.

Do you use Retina around your eyes? A friend of mine uses it all over her face, including her eyes. I don't know of anyone else who does that, I thought that could damage the eyes. I was just wondering if you use a product that may have improved your skin, or do you think it was the Fraxel?

Clam:

I do not use Retina. IT was the the fraxel that improved the crepeyness, no doubt about it.

I have not really noticed much in the way of skin tightening. When I go for my three month check up maybe it will be more evident from the before photos.

I don't really have much acne scars, but I had some around around my lower lip and chin. I have seen some improvement, but not much on this area. I only had four fraxels. I'm going to wait for another month or so and then decide if I should have a couple more.

I would be disappointed if I had done the fraxel just for the acne scarring. Look on the acne.org board, lots of people there have fraxeled.

Clam:

I reread your post. Are you wanting to do fraxel for skin tightening?? I've heard all the buzz about the fraxel stimulating collagen which gives a slight tightening effect to the skin.

To date I have not seen any evidence of that. If there is any it is subtle. But maybe it is still too early for me.

The crepeyness and some of the crosshatches under my eye (which were really scary) have really improved. I also notice a softening of the deep forehead wrinkles and the crows feet around my eyes.

It has helped soften some of the fine upper lip lines. In my opinion the fraxel worked best on the horizontal lines and only slightly on vertical ones. My complexion is noticeably clearer.

My derm told me to wait a few more months and then decide if I want to fraxel more.

I would be curious to know if other people have noticed any skin tightening.
