Laser treatments for acne scars/pits?

Postby jewelsjewelsjewels » Sun Jan 23, 2011 2:58 pm

My son has suffered through some pretty severe acne. We're finally on top of it now, but it's left some noticeable pits and scarring on his cheeks. As he's due to leave for college this fall, we're looking into what we can do to fix the pits/scarring. Any ideas?

Hello,I had full face co2 laser a year ago mainly for acne scarring, the laser evaporates the top layer of the skin so sadly does not work on deeper scars or pits,my skin is smoother but my scars are still visible I am afraid

However, please speak to an expert about this,I do hope that there is some treatment available :)

Ive heard dermabrasion (not microdermabrasion) but the original dermabrasion is the only true thing that works on Acne scars, and large pores. Definetely acne scars. I've had a deep chemical peel, and many years later dermabrasion. The dermabrasion is the one that worked, but still I may need a second treatment. Some people need 2 or 3 to get the desired results. When they go deep it takes 3 weeks for all the dressings to come off and the scabbed skin. Then after that you are very red for another week, and the redness keeps getting lighter after that period of time. I would only go to someone who has done many and is a board certified plastic surgeon that has done 100's, 1,000's of dermabrasions or a dermatologist board certified that has done 100's 1,000's. My doctor, Dr. Caloca in TJ, did the job and I don't have damage from his treatment. He said some don't go deep enough on dermabrasions, and then people wont be satisfied, but you can't go too deep as to cause scarring - that is why sometimes 2 or three treatments are needed but most people are happy with one. Good luck to your search, and wish I could have responded sooner.

I just had Palomar Lux 1540 laser today. It's the way to go for acne scars according to most leading dermatologists. The results that I've seen are amazing. I hope that my results will be similar. The great thing about it is that it is nonablative, doesn't destroy your surface skin, so recovery is 4 days with no bleeding or oozing etc. I'm just puffy and red. My doctor says that I'll see the best results with 3 treatments each spaced 4 weeks apart. Each treatment will cost me $400, so I'll spend a total of $1200. The results are said to last a lifetime, unlike fillers etc. I am not sure about these posts referring to fat loss??? I'm not sure which lasers they are referring to, but from all the pictures I've seen, and from all of those I've spoken with, their results are super.

Hi, I have acne pits. Actually what helped me was having it filled in with juvaderm. Same for my husband, he has bad acne pits too. His was filled in with juvaderm injection. This is much less invasive and risk of complications than laser.

I have had Dermabrasion, Full Face CO2 and now Fraxel Re:pair and Re:pair is the only thing that works. Now here is the kicker, you must have it done at the highest level 70mj-60% and it takes multiple treatments. I will have my 5th Re:pair done this November, and I will probably have yearly treatments done thereafter because I am getting older.

to my understanding laser treatments produce the best results for acne scars. though, i've never done it myself, i have a close family member who has. he said it was pretty effective but i guess it could have been better. if it were me, i would find the BEST doctor and pay top dollar for treatment. you can't go cheap when it comes to your body.

There are 3 treatment possibilities depending on the severity of the acne scars. You should find an experienced plastic surgeon or dermatologist to evaluate the scarring and ask about the following treatments:

1. Fractionated laser treatments to resurface, decrease the appearance of scars and improve the texture of the skin
2. Sculptra/Radiesse to elevate
3. Punch excisions

I'm really worried .. My daughter is having these spots on her face which have occurred after her acne problem. The pigmentation is all gone but the scars are there for so long and i haven't found any reliable product which could make her scars disappear . Please help . I've heard of this product InviCible Scars Advanced Scar Treatment | For Scars & Dark Spots
Is it worth buying ? I have also heard about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Scarring & Stretch Marks | Mederma.com. Please tell me what are your views regarding both these products ?

Postby Shield512 » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:41 pm

I plan on having some sort of laser surgery for acne scarring! I have had two full face dermabasions, one about 18 years ago and the other about 10 years ago! They did not give me the results that I had hoped for! Which laser treatment is the best for acne deep acne scarring?

Dermabrasion and Regular CO2 did nothing for me. One point I would like to make to a previous post is to add the word ablative to his post. Fractional Ablative CO2 is the way to go. DO NOT accept the word Fraxel alone if a doctor says Fraxel, because he may only have Fraxel Re:store the non-ablative laser, and you don't want to bother with Re:store. Demand Fraxel Re:pair, just like there are ineffective FX products, demand Deep FX. The laser world gets very confusing, and I have found no good charts that seperate ablative from non-ablative. There are plenty of studies but people need charts instead of paragraphs of medical information. Lumenis has just released SCAAR FX with ablation depths up to 4mm which is far too deep for facial use, but I am sure it can be turned down. I believe Re:pair and Deep FX go to about 1.4mm. Google Lumenis SCAAR FX not scar fx because then you will get some scar cream, which also brings up a previous post. The only topical application that I know of that has any real effect on the skin is Retin-A and the amount contained in cosmetics is so tiny as to be worthless. Ask a doctor if it is right for you and at what strength and then order through AllDayChemist in India. Even my Urologist uses them.

Another interesting thing being discussed on the acne.org scar forums is a combination of subcision and fractionalised ablative CO2.

Multiple treatments are needed for acne scars no matter what you do.

Used invicible scars on my daughter's skin. It showed its wonders within 2 weeks and faded her scars in a month. Since she was appying it on her entire face , I also found out that it has vanished the dark spots that she had for.i like this product

Unfortunately there is no way to completely eliminate acne scars, all you can do is improve their appearance marginally. Fractionated laser treatments (CO2 specifically) is probably the best way to go but it all depends on what the scars look like. A picture would be helpful in this regard.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. It seems that there's no clear-cut solution, but we'll look into these options. :)

Anybody tried exfoliation to remove at least make the scars less visible? I was reading about it and came across an expensive exfoliation product claims to get the results but I am not sure if it is worth. Any ideas about using exfoliation for acne scars/pits?
