Multiple fractional laser treatments

Postby Randy44 » Mon Nov 17, 2014 1:52 pm

The typical before/after photos on the internet for Fractional Laser (and I am mainly interested in fractional CO2) treatments have someone in their 50s looking maybe 6 years younger in their after one treatment picture. I have yet to see a progression series of pictures where they have multiple pictures, one before, a second after treatment 1, a third after treatment 2, and a forth after treatment 3. If it were me, and I looked 6 years younger after a single fractional laser treatment, I would want to get a second, and even third, laser treatment to improve further. I would not expect to look an additional six years younger after the 2nd treatment, but I should think 3-4 younger would be a reasonable expectation if I looked 6 years younger after the first. So.... why do people stop after one treatment, why don't they rinse and repeat a second and third time?

Hi Randy,

I've had Fraxel before. Some reasons I can propose are

1. Expensive. Several thousand dollars each treatment. And, the results are not immediate nor dramatic - it takes weeks - months.

2. Painful

And, it doesn't work that way. The treatment can help you look several years younger, but multiple treatments do not have a cumulative/additive effect as you imagine. There's a limit to how much improvement there can be.

Fraxel Laser Treatment produces thousands of tinycolumns of treatment in your skin known as “micro thermaltreatment zones”. This treatment eliminates the old epidermal pigmented cells and penetrates deep into the dermis.

I've had 2 fractional CO2 treatments and while my skin tone and texture have improved dramatically, I don't know if I look younger. Well, actually, I guess there is that potential because my frown lines and crows feet are much improved, but I don't know that you could put a number on how many years improvement you can get. I had mine done in Costa Rica and hope to have my 3rd and last treatment done this spring or summer. I am very happy with my results, but it doesn't happen overnight.
