Revision Surgery for Breast Augmentation

Postby freedsar » Mon Jan 26, 2009 5:23 pm

Dr. H,
Just a couple of general questions.

1. How long should someone wait in between surgeries? (ie. if a doctor tells you to wait a year, for example, is that just a delay tactic?)
2. Do you reuse the same implants if they are near new (ie less than 1 year)?
3. Do you ever use the dual plane technique and how does that differ from under the muscle? If so, what situations would you use it for?
4. Do you believe that removal of the implant and then healing for six months) ever works, or does the tissue atrophy and everything stretch back (this is what is happening to me)?
5. What is your average cost for a Breast Augmentation with Silicone? What is the range for a revision procedure (realizing that there is a diffferent level of work needing to be done)? What would be average cost with lipo to muffin top and thighs at same time?
6. Is there such thing as waiting too long for a revision (more damage)?
7. I see that you have lots of patients travel.....is it possible to do the consult and surg in same trip (or is that not really a good idea)? I would be coming from Dallas...
8. If someone had a minor complication, what is your revision policy?

Thanks for your input. I realize my questions are VERY general...but I just wanted to get an idea.....I will be contacting you soon.

1. The length of time depends on the surgery and issue. When an implant exchange was not to the patient's size liking I replaced it the next day whereas when I had a patient develop poor scarring from a breast lift I waited nearly a year to correct it. It all depends on the problem
2. I do reuse the same implants if the patient asks me to. I leave it up to the patient unless there is something wrong with it.
3. The dual plane technique is under the muscle and I have used it long before it was called by any different names. It does not differ.
4. Depends on the situation but unless there is an infection I have never removed an implant for healing.
5. The average cost for a silicone augmentation is between $5500 and $6000. Revisions vary depending on what needs to be done. They can be more or less. Liposuction also varies by location and amount.
6. I am not aware of any problem with waiting too long. Generally it makes it easier.
7. Consults can be done over the phone and the actual physical exam and meeting are typically done the day before with surgery time set aside for the next day.
8. My revision policy is simple. They are free.
