Bullhorn/Upper Lip Lift-Swelling, numbness oh my..

Postby Zarah » Sat May 19, 2012 7:30 pm

Hey folks,

I just got my revision rhino done with an upper lip lift this past Tuesday. I'm seeing the PS on Monday to get the stitches removed. I know I have a lot of swelling and he told me not to freak out. Some of it has gone down & i'm sure it'll take me a few more days.

For those who got an ULL, how long did the swelling and numbness last?

My cupid's bow looks exaggerated due to swelling, & the sides seem like they aren't lifted enough. I know he didn't take a lot of skin off either. It looks good in pictures but then I look in the mirror and see that swollen top. I know patience with time...

I'm thinking of getting a little juvederm on my bottm lip to look more balanced. Since my lip & nose are swollen! Maybe, not sure.

BTW, this sh*t hurts like hell!! I'm running out of pain killers too.

When did the pain stop for you? I can't even scrape food out of the inside of my mouth. Specifically where the top lip is. I can't imagine wtf is in there. Gross. Sorry. It's not like I can smell it either. My nose is so stuffed too.

Eating is also a challenge. I just cant wait til the pain is gone. And i'll be able to poke behind my lip with my tongue. Beauty hurts.

To think I want to do this again with doing a V-Y on my bottom lip next. I'm crazy!!

Hi Zarah, I saw your pics earlier on the rhino forum but was unable to post at the time. I am so happy for you as you have beautiful results. Gorgeous.

I had a lip lift myself and I would be thrilled with your outcome. I think yours looks so much better than mine, where my doctor took too much in the cupid's bow and tapered down the sides. Yours is so pretty! To me it looks like he definitely took enough skin, and of course until you are done swelling you can't judge the final outcome.

I swelled a lot with my LL, although I can't remember for how long. Maybe on and off for 6 weeks? I think my PS would say I had swelling longer than that though, without realizing it. But the initial bad swelling was gone after a couple of weeks. Those early days are the worst.

All that said, you have to consider that your rhino will add to your swelling and could keep your LL swelling around longer than it would be otherwise. From your pictures I don't think your upper lip looks out of proportion to your lower, although I know you said that you had more swelling after the pics were taken.

For now, be thrilled, as your lips are gorgeous! Patience is hard I know, but sure looks to me like you have a beautiful result.

Forgot to comment on the pain. I think the worst of it was over after a couple of weeks, and eating became easier each day. If you are in really bad pain, ask for more pain killers to get you through a couple more days. No sense going through unnecessary pain. You are still early out.

Thanks Annie

That's how I feel about mine too. Too much on the cupid's bow and not enough on the sides? I don't want to judge too early. The numbness and stiffness is more right in the middle of my lip, lower down. It that makes sense...

The look changes too when it gets more swollen and the lips get super dry. Strange. But so far, I like it.

In my opinion your is perfect and not too much taken in cupids bow. Such a pretty outline/silhouette. Mine slopes way too much. The bullhorn will naturally take the center up higher, but my doctor went further and took too much more skin from the center. I have a bunny look you do not have at all. I think your lips are absolutely perfect! I know what matters is how we personally feel...but for the record, you look beautiful!

You'll love it more and more as time goes on I'll bet.

How long did the stiffness last for you? I feel weird having my top mouth stiff like this.

I can't answer that, unfortunately! I honestly don't remember, but I have had so many surgeries that things like that don't really register with me. With any surgery, we never feel 100% like we did prior. There is a new normal we have to get used to. Of course you are not there yet! Things will drastically improve over time. I just never really pay attention and I think that's just because I've had so many I am used to the areas feeling numb, stiff, or nerves regenerating and giving me zings...

I wish I could give more of a timeline but I just didn't pay attention. I also had the lip lift "alone" and you may be feeling effects from your rhino as well. Many people have stiffness with their smile and top lift from rhino alone, without a LL at all.

It does get better everyday. Just frustrating I couldn't kiss my little nephews the other day. I have major stiffness on both, nose and mouth. But it is getting better. The middle of my mouth dropped some too. Which i'm glad. It's now set at the height I want it too. I'm massage the incision too. That has helped.
