I had a bullhorn lip lift and corner lip lift with Dr. Slupchynskyj. I originally had never heard of a corner lip lift, until one of my friends had one. She looked amazing, with or without makeup. The scar was barely visible.
Well I had the procedures, went to my post-op to have the stitches removed (or so I thought), and everything seemed to be fine. But I noticed that the incisions didn't appear to be improving in terms of redness and inflammation as time went on. In fact, they were looking worse. So I got my magnification mirror out and did some inspecting... and there were tons of blue nylon stitches still in the incisions, which were also infected and swollen.
I live far away from Manhattan, and I can't just take a day off to travel in for an appointment. So I sanitized my tweezers and pulled out the stitches myself. One that I pulled out of the corner of my lips was over 1 cm long. I don't understand how a doctor could so carelessly leave such a huge non-dissolving suture in a patient's face... especially in an incision whose healing is crucial to the cosmetic outcome. I went to a local urgent care for a prescription for antibiotics.
The worst part was that Dr. Slupchynskyj did not care at all. I have visited a few plastic surgeons now (mostly to have his terrible work corrected), and he is the most apathetic and uncaring one I've come across. He'll have you sign a bunch of consent and disclaimer forms. Once you've paid and are off that operating table, he could care less about you. He doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. When I tried to follow-up with him about the lip situation, he didn't even respond, and he made no effort to rectify what happened.
In addition to carelessly leaving the sutures in, he also didn't provide any follow-up instructions or write a prescription for some type of antibacterial topical for the aftercare. Again, just total neglect and indifference towards patients who've paid and are therefore no longer a concern.
If you want to have any type of conversation with him you'll have to take a day off to go to Manhattan. Even during my post-ops he'd frequently forget what he'd even done on me.
The lip situation has just been an absolute nightmare. The suture delayed the healing and also caused an infection, which resulted in terrible hyperpigmentation, redness, and keloid scarring. I spent a solid month looking like I had oral herpes. Now I just look like I have the world's most severe case of angular chelitis. I'm three months out and still having to meticulously apply concealer around my lips every single day, and the concealer can't even do anything for the horrendous texture issues.
I've consulted with a cosmetic dermatologist, and he wants to do some type of laser procedure once my lips have healed a bit more.
I'm not sure that I regret having this procedure; I just regret having it with this doctor.
