Anyone else keeping lipo a secret???

Postby L-Boogie » Sun Feb 14, 2010 12:09 am

I'm not sure if someone had already touched on this topic or not but is there anyone else who plans to keep their surgery a secret?

Personally, I don't want people knowing what measures I've taken to get my "new body"

I have made a vow to remain as low key as possible (no public appearances, no parties, no pictures) until AFTER my surgery which isn't until April 9th. I figured that I would tell my coworkers that I'm getting my gallbladder removed which is why I'm taking off from work and my excuse to the people who will want to know how I lost so much weight will be "tons of exercise, tons of water & B12 injections".

I know that is dishonest but you would be surprised at how many people can be jealous of your awesome lipo results. I would rather them assume than to know for sure. I just really don't have the patience for any unsupportive, sarcastic or vindictive remarks from anyone!

2 answers from me.I told my closest friends becsuse I needed to talk with some women about this and the Dr. is a friend of ours so it was natural, but I did not have not told my family. I have not seen them since and won't see them until your April 9 when we have a big family thing. I have been dieting and exercising for more than a year. I have BodyBugg by the way which has helped trememndously in my weight loss and maitaninance.

2nd. you might be suprised how many people don't notice. People are so focused on themselves they may not notice. I told my kids I had some "girl surgery" that was the best answer for me, it was not a lie and I did not have to remember what lie I told to who. and for explaining the weightloss, you could just say, you got with the program. truth is most people won't ask and really don't care. remember this surgery is for you!

Lastly, ok I know that is 3, you will be quite swollen for some period of time, you are having large volume? and so your size won't change that quickly from day of to day after, it will take some time for that swelling to go down.

Tell who you want or not at all, it really does not matter in the end it is about how you feel about what you are doing and the other opinions are great if they agree and unwantedd if they don't.

Counting down to the 9th with you!

Hey L-Boogie,

I am semi keeping my surgery a secret...
I am having Lipo to my back, waist and stomach with fat transfer to my butt, I have told a (very) few close friends and my immediate family about the whole procedure because they are all very close to me and deserve to know whats going on with my health. HOWEVER... I am not so shy about telling other friends and family about the lipo just keeping the new butt thing to myself [-X LOL
So my response to questions of how my butt got bigger so fast (LOL) is simply, "I had lipo and when you get rid of fat in the surrounding areas, the fat grows in other places"

I think Lipo is such a regular thing now, ppl dont really care anymore if you do it or not, but I totally understand about the sarcasm and negative energy but I am sure once your results are final and you are happy, You wont try so hard to keep it a secret anymore
Good luck!

I guess mine would be considered a semi secret as well. My immediate family knows (mom's side of the family) and 1 friend. Other than that nobody else knows. Im so excited that I'm getting this done and I cannot wait. I guess my reasoning for wanting to keep it a personal thing and not tell certain people is because its *certain* people who I believe if I tell... then eventually Im going to have to hurt their feelings somehow because they will say or do something that will totally piss me off. Lol Maybe I'm the only one with evil ex-friends or evil cousins haha but its like if I tell certain people then it will get to some of the people who I'd rather not have in business because of mutual friendships.

That probably doesnt make much sense but in my psychotic mind it does LOL

I was looking at tons of Dr. Newall's before and after photos and many of his patients seen dramatic results within 6-8 weeks. I can totally live with that, and if its longer I can live with that as well (just not too much longer lol). Anywho, swelling may potentially help my story but if I was to be a lucky one with almost immediate results, then me staying out of the spotlight should make "vigorous exercise" sound believeable.

L-Boogie,

I completely understand what you're saying! There are people out there who are just not nice and will try to use something like lipo to get to you somehow...totally not worth the drama. This is something we all felt we wanted and needed to do for OURSELVES and its no one's business. Every just assumes that lipo is the 'easy way out' but no one realizes how hard it is to come to this decision, how much thought and research is really put into it beforehand and how tough it is afterwards (recovery is no walk in the park..)

I too have only told my immediate family- well, mainly just my parents and my aunt who is a massage therapist and will be giving me massages. Its going to be tough explaining the sudden change logically without being caught, but hey - who doesn't love a challenge? Plus, its kind of like you're in on a secret no one else is in on and you feel great!

Good luck to you and we will all be counting down to april 9th with you!! :)

YES!! I am, the only person who knows that I am going to get it (if I can get it) is m grandmother and my boyfriend. My Grandma because I live with her and my boyfriend because... he is my boyfriend lol.

Everyone else I have mentioned it to either don't believe me (my coworker who has had work done herself she just thinks I am too scared, which I am) or I hear "you don't need that," and "you can exercise it off." (I have been exercising it off for years and it is still on). I have heard this from my boyfriend and others several times. I cussed my boyfriend out and told him I could careless what he thinks he doesn't have to deal with the stress I go through obsessing about my body. He says now he just wants me to shut up already and be happy so go ahead and do the lipo lolol. I still have the same love handles and stomach.

You can't believe the convos I have had with my boyfriend. Its taboo and many people are still against it. I realize how much more comfortable people are now that they are happy and got their surgery done. I want to be like that too. Perhaps now I can move on with my life. Hopefully I can get the surgery done.

I would perish without this site lol...you guys are so wonderful!!!

Im so glad Im not the only one who feels this way!!! And youre right VN22320... there is nothing like an inside joke LOL... especially a big one like "Ha! I got lipo and noone knows" lol

@Trina I agree about it still being taboo with some people. I guess some people are just against what they dont understand!

But I guess once its over we will be too focused on our beautiful new bodies to worry if anybody is HATING or to even care if they understand! lol

Thanks so much for counting down with me guys.... I need all the support I can get!

I have kept it a secret.. only my husband, doctor and the nurse know about it.. I am just not comfortable with people finding out.. I am wondering why there is such a stigma attached to it..

My lipo is personal, not up for discussion (except here <g>)

Postby quirkyrabbit » Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:01 pm

I have told about 5 people all together (well, offline -- everyone online can know). I've only told one person at work. I haven't told my children, or most of my best friends (onlytold one).

Funny, I didn't consider it a "secret" but simply private, personal and my business. I'm not "ashamed" per se . . . but I don't discuss my sex-life either.

I didn't do it for anyone else, I did it for my own personal satisfaction.

Hey you guys! Its been a while but I've resurfaced! lol

Its funny how in a little time, things can change. Ive actually told more people about my surgery since I first wrote this thread. I guess the excitement has gotten to me, and I've shocked even myself with the few people I have chosen to tell. Ive gotten negative responses... which have come from people who know NOTHING about lipo whatsoever... but to counteract I have gotten some wonderful, supportive responses!

There are tons of people who still dont know... and I will never tell but for the most part I'm just too excited to focus on the negativity! =)

At 1st I said I was gonna be super lowkey until my surgery so I can blame my new body on an intense workout regimen (kinda like the superstars do lol) but that all change when I thought about what I would miss out on while I was hiding away. So now if people ask what Ive done to get my new shape I'll either tell them or I wont, but Im no longer scared to death of being asked. The funny thing is that I was always confident in my decision to get lipo and I was doing it for me but the thought of people knowing my personal business didnt sit to well with me. I'm still reserved with who I will tell but my focus is just getting off of that operating table with a smile and a renewed quality of life!

This Friday is my big day you guys... 4 days away and I'm over the moon with excitement! keep me in your prayers and I'll do the same for you guys!!! ;-)

Hey Ksue!!!

Its nice to meet a fellow Newall patient! ;-) When is your surgery scheduled?

As for my impressions of Dr. Newall and his staff... I really cant complain. Of course my observations are strictly of our interactions pre-op, but I am very confident in his abilities and I am looking forward to being pleased with my results post-op. A friend of mine on here (justamessenger) also used Dr. Newall and her results are absolutely phenomenal so I look to her for inspiration and whenever I think about how scary this can be... I think about how well she and his other patients Ive talked to on here have done and I get excited all over again. I will be sure to shine some light on my entire experience once Im done so hopefully I can help or inspire the next person!!!

I wish you well with your impending surgery!!!

Hey Everyone
I know its been almost a year since anyones been posting here but I'm going in for lipo to the abdomen and flanks (Love Handles) and am curious to get some feedback on the best "lies" to tell coworkers :D
I work in a very large company however the team I work with (all women) are all pretty close and we all talk about pretty personal things..I really don't want any of them to know I'm getting lipo done and I think the size factor wont be an issue since they all know/see me trotting off to the company gym every lunch and see me eat healthily.
I'm just concerned about what to tell my manager when I ask for the two days off and also in case they notice me acting a bit stiff and sore/achy on the day I return (I'm getting the surgery on a thursday, having friday off too and returning Monday)
Can anyone share any good tips (ive read pretty extensively up on it, but am always open to new tips) as well as suggestions of what to say to "close" coworkers
thanks :)

I didnt keep it a secret and now wish I had been more low key... after my FT/MR and large volume lipo some of my closest friends have pulled away from me.. I can tell they are very envious and try to hide it but it shows... some of my coworkers are excited for me but one has changed my name to skinny btch :(

I have not changed at all in my personality - im still the same but its true what they say about woman being in competition....

having lipo on my i/o thighs and knees next week and keeping that to myself..

isnt sad when you cant share your joy with others?

Only my mum, dad, hubby and one close friend know.

If it was up to me i would tell everybody!! I am sooo happy with my new body but my hubby has convinced me to keep quiet. He thinks i will get judged by my friends and he is 100% right. Most of my girlfriends are soo judgmental.
