Hi everyone,
I'm a thirty year old male, and had lipo of my chest and abdomen three days ago. So far so good. I'm still pretty sore in my abdomen area. I was very sore the first two days, but feel a good deal better today. I'm about 170#, and the doctor removed 4 liters of fat. I can see the improvement in my abdomen already, though I think there is still a good bit of swelling.
I had the doctor leave most of my sutures open. He closed the one in my bellybutton because he was concerned with infection. I drained a lot from my lower abdomen the first two days, which is good I guess.
How long do you guys recommend wearing a compression garment with the open suture method? I've read that the time is reduced with this method, but the doc still said six weeks, but that may be because he doesn't normally leave the sutures open. I had to request this method, and he agreed. Is it normal to wear the garment for six weeks when the sutures are left open?[/img]
I had tumescent lipo with the adits left open. My doctor says 7 days for compression garments. I have read on here that a lot of people are having to wear theirs for many many weeks, but I've had the procedure done 3 times now, and the most I've worn the garments for was 2 weeks maybe. Once the swelling and bruising start to go down and I can tell the skin has retracted, I'm usually out of mine... I might wear it to do aerobic exercise for a couple more weeks, but that's only while I'm working out...

Hello Bry,
Congrats to you on your procedure and it being behind you, now time for healing, yes?
I suggest you wear your garment the amount of time YOUR PS stated, six weeks will pass quickly, and some of us grew very attached to our garments and was MONTHS b/f we gave them up (hand in air here, what about you Retiree??? )
Push the water, and keep your garment on to help with swelling, you sound as if you are doing well, awesome...
I had lipo with open audit drainage about 4 weeks ago. My doctor requires his patients to wear the garment 10 days full time then another 10 days for 12 hours/day. I am still in mine since it is more comfortable then without it. But typically speaking yes...open audits allow for quicker drainage and faster healing so the duration for wearing the garment is decreased.
But I will probably wear my garment for another 2 weeks. From what I've read many people wear their garments for 6-8. I would stick with your doctor's recommendation.
I would agree with 6 weeks also. I'd rather waste time doing something that may not be necessary than look back and regret not doing something and be unable to change it.
Yeah, I had SmartLipo and my doc said to wear the stage 1 for a month, but the one i bought was too small and i switched to a storebrand girdle at 3 days as an emergency measure (weekend). Then it seemed to work well, and I haven't had any swelling (day 5) so I think i'm going to stay with the stage 2! We'll see. Maybe it depends on the person - I've read tha people look forward to putting them on, and I definitely have not had that reaction!
Mine were not stitched as well and my doc said 6 weeks also. I think that honestly I would rather deal with a little discomfort now and get better results with my skin tightening back where its supposed to than to look back with regret later and wish I would have worn it while I had the chance. This is only while the healing takes place that the garmet can help. take the window of oppruntity to look the absoulte best you can!
