Hi. I had smart lipo 5 weeks ago. I have to say it was the most horrific experience of my life. I had my upper arms,. abdomen, stomach, hips and love handles done. They removed 5 litres (12 pounds). The first two weeks were hell. Thank god for the Oxycodone the doctor had me on. On my 8th day after surgery I was so swollen and in pain I was in tears. I weighed myself and was 42 pounds HEAVIER than post surgery - I already have an existing water retention issue and the doctor knew this. I was so afraid because I was so swollen - I called the doctors office and was told to come in immediately. The clinic is a 45 min drive from my house. When I arrived I was told the doctor was in surgery, so I saw a nurse and the "consultant" who looked at me and said "yup, you are swollen to the max". I asked if I could take the diuretic that my GP had me on for my occasional water retention issues and was told by this person with no medical training that I should not take them as they might "mess up my elecrolytes". Then she tried to sell me $850 in these "special massages" to reduce swelling! I walked out. I came home, entered the name of my diuretic and the words "swelling" and "liposuction" into google and what do you think came up? EVERY SINGLE HIT SAID THE SAME THING: this drug is COMMONLY prescribed to patients with excessive swelling after liposuction! I took my pills and lost 16 pounds of the swelling in ONE DAY!
So now its 5 weeks later and I am itchy and have that "pins and needles" or prickly feeling all over my stomach, abdomen and sides. I have read on this board there is no quick fix for this - that it is my nerves re-generating. But can anyone tell me how long this feeling will last? Its driving me INSANE!!!!!! And if anyone can recommend anything I can do?take to calm the prickly feeling, PLEASE give me your suggestions!!!

Hey - if Benadryl works for the itching you might also try Claritin - won't make you sleepy!

Itching post surgery

Postby lrk0909 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 2:47 am

Just to let some of you know that when I had my brow lift, I experienced severe itching on the scalp. I also had a lot of sinus problems and started taking Alavert, claritin or something similar and it did help with itching. I could definitely tell the difference when I DIDN'T take it. Good luck to you all! I'm going for back/flank lipo in about a month. Good to refresh the potential issues involved. :)

Post lipo discomfort,itchiness and soreness

Postby athenamo » Thu Jul 31, 2008 12:07 am

 I am 3.5 weeks post op
My life saver for the itchiness and soreness is the Boiron Arnica GEL. It reduces the itching and helps your body feel cool and less sore. I am obsessed. I took the arnica montana pills with it in the initial few weeks post lipo but now stick with the gel and the Bromelain pills for swelling. You can find here at makemeheal.com

QUESTION: When did people start working out like Aerobic or kick boxing????

Siva wrote:Thanks for this thread! I am 2 days post FTT, MR, Lipo/back & flanks and the ITCHING on my butt and back has been the worst, and was totally unexpected. Seriously, I cannot believe how itchy my skin is. I'm usually on the tummy tuck message board, but didn't see anything there about itching after lipo so jumped over to this board and was glad to discover this is apparently normal. But, it looks like I could be in for weeks of misery! Since I can't bathe or shower yet, Aveeno is out. Has anyone tried hydrocortisone cream? I suppose that's a long shot, but looking for anything that might help... thanks! :)

Try dry brushing with a natural bristle brush.

Hi I am 1 week Post, Lipo to inner / outter, flanks and knees. and 4 weeks post tummy tuck and full hystorectemy. I have experienced things with the Lipo that I was not ready for. My stamina, I can not seem to get back. I get very light headed and sick feeling when I get up moving around, especially when I try to take a shower. I am experiencing itching, and a quite a bit a soarness and swelling in my legs. I feel like I can work thru the soarness and swelling but I just don't understand the weak feeling.

I am pleased to find this site, It has been very helpful.

Head back to your GYN dr and have your chemistry and blood levels checked. You had a lot done at once. Wonder if you are anemic?

Advice on Ropey (?) Lumpy Abdominal Vaser result

Postby erica40 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 7:43 am

I am hoping someone can provide me with some reassurance.....I am 7.5 weeks PO and had Abs and flanks Vasered. I have gone through the entire gammut of pretty much everyone has mentioned in this thread, except the itching - I didn't have that....but the bruising, swelling, numbness, tingling, soreness, etc....absolutely....I wish I would have seen this board prior to my surgery to help get mentally prepared! As of right now (7.5 weeks), pretty much everything looks fantastic (I am 5'6" 110 lbs, the goal for my LIpo was to get rid of that nasty pooch right under my belly button that I swear I was born with and nothing would get rid of).

Anyway, I have followed my docs orders to the T. Still wearing the equivalent of a spanks about 80% of the timeand have gotten 2 professional massages a week since week 2.

So here's the deal: at about 4 weeks, I developed this lumpy, uneven, bulgy pouch (for lack of a better way to describe it), that is soft to the touch, but if you press in, you can feel what I think everyone is calling "ropey" along with what feel like little hard bubbles. This "bulge" is about 4.5 inches across and 1.5 inches from top to bottom, and protrudes about 1/2 inch out. At the top and bottom are little wrinkles that my doctor used the word "tethered" to descripbe.

My doc is not committing to anything regarding whether its going to go away at this time. I see him again in 10 days to assess progress. He has mentioned a revision procedure as a potential option. I am not happy about having more done and going through recovery again.

Has anyone experienced this? Did it resolve on its own? How long until I really know if its going to resolve? Any advice is really appreciated!!!

Sorry for the long story, and thanks so much in advance!!

Hello Make Me Heal Users,

In addition to this growing list of knowledge from other users, I would like to suggest some products that are excellent to help you recover from your liposuction procedure.

Compression Garments
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product/c ... ?procid=51

Make Me Heal Plastic Surgery Healing Multinutrient Kit (Pre & Post-Op Formulas)
ID: 13511
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.d ... &catid=634

Cold and Hot Compresses
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product/t ... ?procid=40

Scar Reductions Products
Scar Esthetique Reduction Cream (w/Silicone, Arnica, Antioxidants, Copper Peptides, Co-Q10)
ID: 15690
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.d ... &catid=543

Silicone Scar Sheets
http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product/s ... &catid=544

Used together these products can help you have an amazing recovery. The compression garment is very important to reduce swelling, reduce fluids, keep sutures in place and tighten the skin. The vitamins can help to reduce swelling and bruising and speed up recovery time. The cold and hot compresses can help reduce swelling and the hot compress can increase blood flow. Once your wounds have healed the scar cream and silicone sheet combination can help to reduce visibility of the scar and make it less noticeable.

Thanks Ginger for finding and bumping this helpful thread! :)

It certainly does help to know that what you are going through is completely normal. Itching is the worst!! Not that swelling is any fun either.
