Smart Lipo Questions

Postby Hockey247 » Wed May 23, 2007 3:53 pm

I was wondering if anyone had some more information on smart lipo. I have read some other posts where people were talking about having two separate types of lipo when they were told it was just smart lipo. I have been told its smart lipo only but I never asked about a hybrid form. I will not be asleep but given general. It will take longer than two hours to do my stomach, flanks and arms. I was also told that there were 4 smart lipo machines and this location ( STRAX Rejuvenation) in South Florida has two of them. I am getting a little nervous that I didn’t ask enough questions now. I am scheduled for June 9th and I have already done my pre op. Please share your experiences and what I can expect. I am a little nervous reading some of the posts.

Hi Hockey. Lipos (considering all the various types) are hard to get a handle on. The center's website is fabulous but I have a few questions that I would be asking the doc. Why are you having general anesthesia ??? It says right on his website he does it under local. That seems strange for just two hours of smartlipo. Also, make sure they do some sucking out of the fat. The website leads one to believe otherwise. Now...that being said. Dont freak out. You can tell most of the girls here are happy with their results and I am sure you will be too! I think you can gather from all the post that our biggest B**tch is swelling. Now go get your new body

Strax

Postby Remmah » Wed May 23, 2007 8:11 pm

Hockey247,
I was reading a lot of threads last night and I did come across someone that posted a link about lawsuits with a few PS in the Ft Laud area. I just tried to go back to see if I can find it for you but I haven't had any luck. I just did a google search and this was one of the articles I had seen:
http://www.yourlawyer.com/articles/read/7996
It mentions a different name than Strax, however Dr Hamm, who is mentioned in the lawsuit, currently practices at Strax. It just makes me a little nervous. I don't mean to frighten you, but make sure you do your research. I am also in So Florida and I know there are not many Dr's doing SmartLipo. I spoke to one of the girls on here today and she went to Dr. Blinski in Miami and at 2 weeks post op, she is very happy. I have a consult with Dr. Man at the end of June and I will probably schedule something with Blinski too. The other 2 are Fred Powell in Miami and Dwight Reynolds in Coral Springs, but I haven't heard from anyone that has actually gone to them....SO, IF YOU'RE OUT THERE PLEASE LET US KNOW.
Hockey, pease let me know what you decide and Good luck!

thank you so much

Ok, It was a typo when I said general-- I meant local. I will be awake the entire time. I do know that there are only 2 scheduled appointements per day. The paperwork that I signed was vague but what i am looking at now says Suction Lipectomy? I felt like I was filling out forms for regular liposuction due to all the discalimers. I am going to call and ask some questions. What exactly is the hybrid smart lipo called. I should also be making sure that they do suction- correct?

About Dr. Hamm, I believe he was once a part of Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery. A lot of the staff came over from there. My Dr's name is Dr. Nees. I haven't had a chance to look at all the websites yet- I will and will definitely keep you all posted!

Thanks for EVERYTHING

SmartLipo--100%!!!

Postby sloweyes » Thu May 24, 2007 5:28 pm

Hockey, I went to Dr. Bruce Katz in NY--one of the few I heard was doing SmartLipo, and heard due to all his PR, on all TV networks, People magazine, etc. I do believe SmartLipo is a great procedure, and Dr. Katz told me he would do Power Lipo to start and then SmartLipo, because that is how it is done. I --like you--did not ask the percentage of each.

Well, he probably did 99% PowerLipo--which was NOT what I wanted, and "TOUCHED ME UP", in his words, at the end with SmartLipo. And it did NOTHING. Maybe worse, as my skin is not smooth anymore. And I paid $7000 for two areas.

This man is extremely well known, I researched him, and what he did was to me, a bait and switch. I got so little SmartLipo because it is a painstaiking, time consuming process and Dr. Katz wanted to rush to other rooms to do other patients. I did not realize it at the time and of course, was woozy and in and out of a lot of pain.; But I was VERY aware of what was going on and did not question it enough, which is why I WARN you ahead of time to ASK how much of SmartLipo will be done. And the number should be 100%.

Drs. Nees and Hamm both have restrictions on their licenses and Nees has been suspended twice. I would not use either. He also perfromed surgery on 16 pts with his license suspended! RUN!

SmartLipo

Postby michmia » Thu May 24, 2007 7:21 pm

I had vaser and smart lipo with Dr Reynolds in Coral Springs. I am almost at 3 weeks out and things are looking good. I had very little bruising and most was gone in about a week. I had my arms, hips, back, inner thigh, saddlebags and abdomen done. I love my new arms!!! I don't have my back rolls anymore, the stomach is looking good...and I know they will get better with time. The worst part of the experience is the darn garment...I can not wait to get the ok to stop wearing them. Dr. Reynolds is great.

I am just coming up on my 4 wk PO mark. I went to Strax and saw Dr. Goldberg and was quite happy with him. I am still so super swollen in my tummy. The only thing that worries me is that on my tummy, there are 2 rolls (it's hard to describe, almost like crevaces). I am hoping that it is just swelling in different spots. Does anyone else have this problem? I am going for my 4 week PO visit this coming week. Wish me luck!!!

Gemini I am glad you have shared this information. I was told I will be fine to go on vacation, exactly 4 weeks from my procedure. I am doing my tummy as well and I am going on an active vacation to AZ. I know I must sound pathetic on this thing- signing up for something I thought I overly researched. Did you get smart lipo with Dr. Goldberg or was it a Hybrid procedure? Was it very painful?

I looked up the information on Dr. Nees and I feel a bit better. The reasons he got in trouble to me sound a bit questionable. This girl had an affair with him-- for a while it seems-- then pressed charges. That is a bit shady-- it probably wasn't in his best interest to date someone he met as a patient-- but she pressed sexual charges against him after consent.

I am not justifying a terrible situation-- only stating that thank god it was not due to something else.

Oh god no, you do not sound pathetic by any means. It is a big procedure and you should find out everything you can on it. I didn't meet Dr. Nees. I was to scared to do the procedure with him because of all the issues that were listed. I had smart lipo with Dr. Goldberg. I really felt comfortable with him. During the procedure he made me comfortable also. It was a little painful. It's hard to describe. You are on the meds during the procedure but you are fully aware of what is going on. I don't know if that is the same for everyone. The local was unfortable, the only spot that it felt like it was unbearable was on my hips. After you are numb, you really don't feel anything. I am glad I did it, I just wish the results were quicker. I just had my 4 week PO visit today and he said I was doing ok. The swelling is still pretty bad but he said it will take another 2 months for my swelling to go down and to just keep wearing the garment. Since you are going on vacation, I would definitly bring your garment with you and wear it at all times. I know it will be uncomfortable, but I think it'll be worth it. Also drink tons and tons of water. Good luck, keep me posted!!

I will definitely keep you posted. I had my consult with Dr. Goldberg and he seemed really nice. I know two people who saw Dr. Nees -- so i am just going to go with it-- I spoke to them today and asked all of the questions that were raised during this thread. I feel a lot better knowing that it is smart lipo- some dr's will use a bit of power lipo-- but ultimately it depends on how much is being removed and the surgeon.

I was hoping to see results by the time I went on vacation- thank god I didn't plan it for my vacation. Keep me posted as well-- as to how you like yoru results after your swelling goes down.

Thanks!
