Tear Trough Injectables and Ethnic Skin

Postby FLFoxey » Sun Aug 31, 2008 2:46 pm

I am a 52 year old woman of color. Over the past year, I have noticed that when passing a mirror the reflection of my image shows hollowness in my eye area and people are asking me if I am tired. I am thinking of having filler done in the tear trough area. I am not a fan of needles and from most of my research, understand that anesthesia is not used in the fillers (only topical) and there can be brusing and discomfort. However, I have read and seen on TV the method of administering the filler through the mouth that is less painful and less bruising. Can you comment on this procedure and recommend someone who does it this way. The practitioner does not have to live in my area

Dear FLFoxey,

I am a big fan of injectable facial enhancement using dermal fillers or your own natural fat to rejuvenate the face. My research has shown that patients of color tend to show more significant signs of aging around the eyes and cheeks, particularly in the tear trough area.

In the mouth (intraoral injections) are a good option when using fillers such as Radiesse. Suprisingly, tear trough injections are not really painful. Bruising can be an issue, but with proper technique can be minimized.

If you take a look at my website before and after gallery under Juvederm, you can see a patient with great results from a tear trough Juvederm injection. I'd be happy to review your photos and make some recommendations. Just forward them to my practice manager, Monica Gomez (monicagomez@culturaface.com)

Take Care,

Dr. Harris
