Dear Big, please don't do anything to your toes! I learned that when the toe next to the big toe is longer than the big toe it's a sign of high intelligence! Test this for yourself. Look at the toes of your friends & family. I have always found it to be true.

There are 2 doctor's i've read about in NYC, 1 is Dr. Oliver Zong. It's not that uncommon anymore, especially for "morton's toe" (longer 2nd toe). Any toe can be shortened, and I think all can be lengthened up to a couple of millimeters.

Here's an article about cosmetic toe surgery http://www.sheknows.com/articles/beauty-and-style/hands-and-feet/100554-Plastic-surgery-for-your-feet-Cosmetic-foot-surgery.htm

I've read that having a longer 2nd toe shows more emotional intelligence or greater intuition, the 1st toe is more about intellectual intelligence, but could be wrong.

Hi! I'm Tootie. I started a blog to document my experience, recovery, and result.

http://hammertoeshorteningblog.blogspot.com/

I had Toe Shortening and Hammertoe surgery 2 weeks ago. I had to have both in order to prevent reoccurence. My DR is located in NYC and I will provide her name when I can see my results. Right now, I am bandaged so I can't tell if was worth it yet!

let me just tell you something, THINK TWICE!!!! i have hated my feet all of my life, been totally embarrassed at the beach and pool, always tried to hide them from everyone even my own family!!!! But now I am sitting here with bandages on my feet, still in major pain 8 days later. Tomorrow i go and have the sutures removed, and i swear if i had any idea that i would be in so much pain i can promise you i would have never gone through with this. I'm not a pill taker, but i was poppin the lortab like tic tacs!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck !!! THINK TWICE!!

I had toe shortening surgery 2 months ago and it was the best thing that I could have done the pain wasn't extreme and my doctor was brilliant! His name is Dr. Gary Evans located in NYC 1 Penn Plaza. I had a complicated birth which ended with me wearing a brace on my right foot my toes looked horrible before Dr. Evans. He shortened my second and third toe and now I am waiting for summer to wear sandals and flip flops. I haven't worn sandal or flip flops since I was 8 years old because I have been too embarrassed for anyone to see my feet. I had one normal looking foot and the other....it wasnt a good look! But after the swelling has gone down they look better and better each day.

TOE SHORTENING / FOOT SURGERY

Postby maztan » Wed Jul 18, 2012 10:25 pm

I have had toe shortening surgery 1 month ago,.
I had the right foot done and an having left one in 2 weeks.
The experience was well worth it. I had several things done.
Firstly a hyprocure inserted (a titanium stent which goes inside the talortarsal space to stop your foot over pronating). The recovery from that is fine. No pain just feels a bit strange as your foot is repositioned and not flattening.
Then I had 2nd and 3rd toes realigned and shortened and also tendon cut to stop then from clawing (retracting up) which caused me to get calluses and blisters and painful toes rubbing on most shoes). The tenotomy is to flatten out the toe then the doc. performs the osteotomy which is cutting the bones to realign and shorten them. He didn't use any pins, wires or screws. The whole recovery is done with tape/bandages. I also had my big toe straightened.
This is called an Akin osteotomy. My big toe was bent inwards towards the other toes. This is performed by cutting a small wedge of bone out and straightening the toe. This part of the recovery is not painful.
I had to wear a surgical boot at all times for 3 weeks. Then I went into a sports or similar shoe. I was able to walk straight after the operation and only had to have pain killers at night sometimes. The anaesthetic they used during the operation lasted for 3-4 days!! So no pain till that wore off. I can't recommend this operation enough!!! For those who have troublesome feet and when it affects your quality of life (because you have pain walking and in most shoes, or also if you hate the look of your feet!)

This applied to me (both painful and ugly feet!)

I was expensive but I feel it was worth it.

If you're thinking of having this done, speak to a lot of doctors until you find one who does minimal incisions, and doesnt use pins, screws or wires. I saw three of four doctors before finding the one I chose.

His name is Paul Bours, In SYdney, Australia.
