i need a really really good moisturizer that goes with obagi

now that i am on maintenance - what is a really good moisturizer to use? i wonder about the ZO line - but i am afraid to use it because the ingredients say it has retinol in it. i don't think i need to use a moisturizer with retinol, as i use the blender/tretinoin every other night. what about ReVive? La Mer? Any suggestions?

Hi there,

I read one of Kadeebelle's post that stated you won't need moisturizer after Obaji--only Vitamin C, eye cream, sunscreen (daytime) and your maintenance.

I did buy and use Obaji Action (it's for severe dryness). During the really bad peeling, I used a small amount under my makeup.

Hi Crystal & Sunny,

Great question, and response! While on the OBAGI program, I'm a firmer believer that you should try to avoid moisturizers while on the system.

The concept makes sense: when you where a child, you didn't need to put on a moisturizer, as you skin had it's own ability to hold water to it's max. When it's damaged (free radials, sun-exposure, etc), it looses this ability. While on the system, and afterwards, you start to re-build this deficit. However, I'm never going to be convinced that it's 100% "healed" if you will... We are still under daily attack from the sun, pollution, (and so on), and we (even though we desperately avoid it!) do continue to accumulate damage.

Hence, some people will need to be on some sort of moisturizer on the non-obagi days, and even more importantly, incorporate antioxidant protection into their regiment. I love, love, love OBAGI Vitamin C's, but (even still) I felt I needed something more. Thus, for the last 2 years we've been developing a supplementary skin care line focused on antioxidant protection and hydration to "fill in the gaps."

So, although ideally (which IS the case for some!!!) you don't need a moisturizer, some do. ;)

Best, M

Dr. Obaji does not believe in moisturizers for your skin. All they do is make your skin feel good. If your skin is healthy, making Collagen, cells are being renewed then your skin will have its own moisturizer. Dr. Obaji's Zo line is an OTC line for the consumer, but he has developed products in this line that compliment the Obaji line. Check with one of the ZO specialists and see what they might advise.

I personally don't use moisturizer, but my girlfriend uses Comvita Daily Moisturizer with SPF15 and she says it's the best she ever used by far. We both love Comvita products, it's such a wonderful company. http://www.comvita.com

I use Obagi Vitamin C serum 20% that i got from my derma. I even use it under the eyes as he said it is ok too. I've just started using a retinol cream 1.25 every other night, and i love Jurlique purely age defying night cream, as it is rich and creamy, and helps moisturize over the retinol with natural ingredients that work. I think these along with Obagi work great :)
