Keep a good thought for us here in Southern California. I am in Pasadena in the foothills and the fire is currently burning on the ridge right above us. We have packed up our emergency stuff and are ready to evacuate. We haven't gotten the word yet, don't know how much sleep we will get tonight. A fireman came to the house earlier today and told us that tonight and probably the next couple of days will be critical for our location. This happened to us 16 years ago and all the homes on our cul-du-sac burned accept ours (we were the only one with a fireproof roof). Hopefully our luck will hold.

My kids are really wound up and I am unusually calm. Hopefully that will last too. It does make all my petty worries about my necrosis scar seem so silly. Nothing like a real problem to put things in perspective.

If we are still here at the house in the AM I will post an update.

Thanks for all the good wishes. We made it through the night without an evacuation order. Fire is still up on the ridge behind the house but firefighters have managed to hold it off. Hopefully they will be able to back it off today with the planes and helicopters dropping fire retardant and perhaps we will be out of the danger zone. Seems like fire is running wild north, I hope they get a handle there before anymore homes are threatened. We have friends in the Acton area and fire is bearing down on them now. Apparently firefighters are concentrating on cutting fire breaks in Acton area so when fire gets there it can't enter the town. Hope it works.

Thought we were out of harms way but a fireman came to my door this morning and wanted to look in the back yard. He said they would like to run fire hoses down the yard today, or most likely tomorrow to be ready. He says there is no immediate danger.... 4 huge bulldozers came into the canyon below us last night and they are cutting firebreaks in the canyon. Hopefully all a precaution!
