PO TT Anybody on HRT?

Postby AnnieBeansprout » Wed Oct 13, 2010 4:03 pm

I recently received the prescription for low dose RHT (Activella). Got it on Aug 31, with no plans for immediate surgery,(til the next day!), and well two weeks later had my boobs done. So, I never did start it.

Now I am one month out, and my hormones are CRAZY like after the TT. Well, after the TT they were crazy every day. So far this didn't start til normal "PMS" time, but so much worse than normal. So I am hoping they are only going to be crazy during PMS time, and not for the next four months or longer.

So, I am wondering, do I start my HT now or wait til the wackiness is over? That could be months.

I realize I can call the doc (my gyn is who I would call), but just wondering, for any of you who may be on HT, did you go off for surgery, and if so, did you start right back up? I know that with birth control some have to stop and others keep taking through surgery. Wondering if it is the same with HRT.

I realize not many on this forum currently may be on HRT, but in the past there have been some and maybe some who don't post much but are here reading? I know there are lots of gals my age and older...

Thanks for any advice. I know this is not a dangerous issue if I go on them now or in a month or two. I have already been prescribed. Just wondering what others did. I am hoping if I start now, it will congrol this and I won't have that post surgical weirdness any longer.

Thanks anyway Imt! I thought I would give it a shot, and will keep bumped a few days. I am thinking I will probably just start them up soon, because if I had already been on them, I assume I would have gone back quick if I would have even had to go off. Just a little apprehensive since I just spent five horrendous PMS days...that it could make things worse. Yet maybe it will make it all better! Lol

Hi Annie,

I've already gone through the HRT route (about 10 years) and had very good results with them. I was already off hormones when I had my FTT last January. The hot flashes that occur with this surgery are very much like what you experience with menopause. I am not a medical professional, but I would go ahead and begin your hormones. They will probably help. If both the gyn and ps say it's ok, I would start.

good luck!

Thank you Calmomj! I so appreciate your help. I decided I am going to. It has been a few years of worsening peri symptoms, and then the TT magnified everything for months, and now it seems the new surgery may be doing the same. I was supposed to start in sept til the surgery came up, so might as well get on now. I am glad to hear you had a good experience, and I hope I do too.

Thanks again!

How did I miss your post!?!?!

I'm not familiar with that HRT, but I'm taking bio-identical estrogen and progesterone...which I HIGHLY recommend. I've learned that most of the HRT that Dr's are prescribing are actually produced by synthetic horse hormones!! WTFrick is that about! We're on the HRT to help us with our hormones, we don't need to start neighing and get cravings for Oats LOL (you know I can't resist joking!).

Seriously, though, check to see if you have a local pharmacy that compounds and find out about the bio-identical hormones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioidentic ... nt_therapy

I started out on the Vivelle patch and I can't pinpoint the differences, but lets just say I felt MORE myself when I switched to the bioHRT.

luv ya

Hi Dawn!! Thank you!

I do have a pharmacy close by that will compound, and I did speak to a pharmacist about it a year ago August, and spent months trying to decide what i wanted to do. Right now I'm on a trial basis for a year with what my doc has given me (it was two separate appts, a year apart, before finally making my decision), and we'll see how that helps my symptoms, which are not too awefully bad yet.

But we'll see how things go as time goes on!

Hi Annie...
I'm sorry you are going through this. I certainly don't "REALLY" know, but I think I would start the HRT as well. I sure don't think it could hurt and like you said, it might help! lol

I was having those horrific hot flashes for the first few weeks PO but they have gone away now. Thank you, Lord! I know this is a glimpse into what menopause will be like....probably, but I was not amused.

I was "supposed" to start my period on October 11th and just started today. I've never, ever had PMS issues.... but I will say that this month I sure did. My boobs got swollen, I was emotional and all that jazz! The doc had told me that I might not have a period for 2 months as it takes the body time to adjust. It's amazing how much better I have felt since I started today. I say all of that to say.... I hope it was the "first month after TT" thing and not a new hormone problem! LOL My doc actually told me the first period would be worse, so maybe so.

I am planning on going the bio-identical route, also....Dawn! I have so many friends in menopause and they all swear by them. I've even got me a doctor lined up and ready. He says I'm not in peri yet, but at 46.... it can't be long! :(

Annie.... I hope you get to feeling better very soon and that it all works out for you. [-o<

Thanks Wisdom!

After the TT my first four were horrible. The worst cramps...OMG. But then things calmed back down to normal bad after that. That's pretty good you were only two days off. Maybe that's a good sign? Are your cramps normal or worse?

I am pretty hopeful starting up now that I will find relief not just from my normal peri symptoms, but this post surgical stuff. I had signs and symptoms around age 41! Really even earlier I think, but didn't know it. I guess we are all different. For years using natural progesterone cream with no help.

Thanks for your help!

Annie.... That's good to know, so that if and when my next monthly is not normal, I won't freak out! I have never had a cramp in my life. I've been so blessed in the PMS area. This month I had VERY painful cramps! I told someone that I haven't had any pain meds in a longg time for the TT, but I needed to take one for the cramps. ha! How odd is that. It honestly bothered me more than the pain from the TT. Ok.... maybe I'm being a little dramatic  but it really was a bad period, but then again...... I'm glad it came on. :D It is no worse in the "flow"...so to speak, but the achiness, boobs hurting, cramps..etc it was NOT good. But, I'm feeling much better today.

I am praying that you find relief for your symptoms as well! I bet you will! [-o< I know it stinks to be recovering from surgery and have hormonal issues. This whole hot flash thing has motivated me to have my doc lined all up and ready for me when I need them. Such a strange feeling.

We are all different...that is for sure! I have a friend who is 52 and not in "menopause" yet, but she has been in peri since she was 38 with lots of symptoms!!! And then, I have another friend that started peri in her late forties and was "done" at 51. My doc says the more exercise you get and the better you eat, the easier the symptoms will be for both meno and peri. Yet, another motivation to exercise.

I know a lot of people the cream has worked for, but I know it doesn't work for all. Have you had the salava test for your hormones? I hear they are more accurate but have no personal experience to know for sure. My friend wears a patch and that has made a big difference for her vs pills or creams. SOOO many choices that it makes you tired thinking about them all. :?

Keep us updated on how it goes!!!
