Mireana

Postby myturn07 » Fri Sep 04, 2009 7:18 am

Ok, I posted to a post about my Mireana earlier this week, at that time I was still in love with it!!! I have had it almost 4 months.

However, here is what I have figured out over the past week, for those of you who have it......will this change, and/or, did you have this...

I have noticed my clothes have been a little tighter, I have maintained my weight since sx over 2-1/2 yrs ago...so I called my doc to see what I weighed when I had this put in May 19th....I have gained 8 pounds!!!!
I am also experiencing light headed/dizziness when I get up from seated. I also have bumps on my face, not a pimple that you can pop, more like knots.....hhhmmmmm.

Since having the IUD, I had really light periods, teeny tiny pad and that is it, but it still lasted about 6-7 days..MUCH better than what I was going through before getting it (I got it for period control)...well, this month, I started last Monday the 24th...I am STILL freaking bleeding!!! Plus the last few days have become almost "normal" flow!

I am really aggrevated and trying to figure out if all of this "stuff" is tied to the Mireana. I need to have the removal string trimmed b/c DH does feel it from time to time. Problem is, I do not want to make an appt to have it trimmed and then a week later decide to remove it!!

I am so frustrated right now!!!

Anyone??!!!!!

Ugh, gosh I wish I could help. I have not started it yet and plan to next month.

I know when I was on birth control pills years and years ago I did gain weight. I don't remember other symptoms.

But this is supposed to be such a small dose of hormones I don't know what to think.

Hopefully some will speak up that maybe this is a temporary thing and will go away soon, although 4 months is kind of long already.

I sure don't want to try it if it is going to cause bloating because on top of the swelling already...

The dizziness is weird that long. I really would have thought that would not last.

I'm sorry Myturn. I know this must be so disappointing because it is supposed to be so wonderful, but it is not so if there are side effects like this.

Wish I could help, but thank you for posting because I need this thread before I start up myself. This is pretty much the reason I haven't even though the doc wanted me to a year ago. I am afraid of side effects.

Thanks Paige, well, I did talk to the nurse and she said all of these sympoms could just be age related and changes in hormones.....but the fact that they are occuring in conjunction w/the iud has me pointing fingers, ya know?? And yes, the Mireana is not known to add weight.....

May not be related at all.....I am just grasping at staws.

I did have some dizziness priot to my ear sx last December, although ear doc said it was not related to that b/c my issue was not in my inner ear....SO...I have no clue......

I am terrible for self diagonisis, I will be on WebMD and think I have all kinds of crap going on!!! I have so far reisisted the urge!

Ive had my meirena for 2.5 years and I love it! I was 180lbs when I had it inserted and now Im 117lbs (I did all the hard work, not the meirena) but I didnt gain any weight or had a hard time stabalizing it at all.
My periods when I first got it lasted FOREVER it felt like but then a couple months in the pretty much went away. At around a year and a half they came back and their really speratic. So sometimes Ill get a period every 2 weeks and then not for 2 months. I dont mind though since their so light it doesnt bug me, except I sometimes forget I have my period. Sorry you seem to be having trouble with it. I will NEVER go back to anything else. Its been great for me. I think the side effects I am having is because the horomone decreases a bit after 2 years. Still really effective but thats why I am probably having weird periods. Nothing I cant live with though.
ANyways good luck and I hope things get better for you!

Hey. Love my IUD. I am on my second one. I have the 10 year model..not sure if it is Mirena.

Weight gain is not a side effect of IUD unless it has hormones which mine does not which is why I got it. I had horrible depression on the BC pill. Does Mirena have the progesterone in it? If so that could be your issue.

My periods were very light in the beginning but over the last 11 years have become more like before the IUD. I am anxious to get my first period post TT because I have read some people saying here that they had issues.

You may have hit the nail on the head Angela, it has Levonorgestrel, which is a low does progestin. I really needed that, as I do not use it for birth control, but period control!!! I had awful ones!!

I looked up levonorestrel just now and dizziness and increase/decrease of acne is listed, however weight gain says it should be less than 2 pounds, who knows, maybe that is because I have had too much fun this summer

Sigh....guess I will wait it out a bit. The dizziness is not really bad, just something I have noticed. I'll work on the weight and hopefully the periods will settle down....honestly periods are really much better except for the current "bleedfest" I am on....be OVER already!!!

When I got my IUD my doc gave me a bunch of pamphlets on menopause...I looked at him and said "I don't need those, I'm skipping that!!" Maybe I should pull them out and read.....women, we have all the fun!

I do not know what to think or do!

I am now, for the first time since the early weeks, starting to blow up in my lower stomach. My swelling has been confined mostly to my hips, but now my lower abs are in on the act. It started coincidently just a few days after starting up localized vaginal estrogen.

I know it has to be related. If not for the surgery it would probably not be too bad. So now I'm afraid to go for more hormones at this time, until I am finally over the dang swelling.

Also, I have been on Retin-A for 23 years and I originally started due to acne (go figure...only the occasional pimple in HS and then they increased after age 20). I am still on it and when I go off my face breaks out. So, I fear the hormones could make it worse!

Course, they could also make it better. Dealing with acne and wrinkles at the same time is just cruel. ;)

Ugh..Elysia thank you for posting this because I am going to have a very thorough talk with my doc first. I really want to know exactly what most patients experience.

I want to use this simply for convenience, and if I have side effects that are still there after 4 months...I don't want to do it. Not til my swelling goes away anyway.

The hormones should help your acne...I would have a major chat with your OB about all the things that are going on and see if you can pinpoint it to IUD. It may be other things.

The acne must suck. I only get an occassional pimple and that is horrible as it is.

Good luck.

Angela, my acne isn't really bad acne like you picture a kid might have. But, there are times when I'm off RetinA that I will have like 8-12 pimples on my face. Which, considering I'm 45...that sucks!

When I was on the pill in my 20s I don't know if my acne was helped, because Retin-A takes care of it pretty much and I was on it then too. So, I never really knew! Probably did help it though.

Mainly though, my biggest concern is increase in swelling. I am still not in my pre-op clothes on a daily bases, 7 months after surgery. If I have anything that is going to make me swell more, or for longer, I may be posting from the looney bin. ;) I don't swell huge anymore, but enough to really be annoying and keep me in tight clothes. I just cannot make myself buy bigger clothes if I am eventually going to be swell free.

Elysia, keep us up on how it goes with you and what you decide okay?

Ok - I'm DONE!!!!

This puppy is coming out!!!

I also have developed edema, mostly in upper thighs, it is not visable, but I have a habit of stiting "indian style" on the chairs on my deck, my leg touches (not hard or anything) the chair arm......I get a dent that lasts HOURS!!!! Have noticed this for a couple weeks, but did not know where it was coming from!!! I'm talking about sitting in this chair long enough to smoke a cigarette and I am dented for hours!

Just called gyno, he is on sabbatical from 9-23 until 10-30, trying to work me in.....waiting on the call, if he cannot SOMEONE WILL!

Bye bye IUD!!!

Edit to add:

YEAH!!! They fit me in tomorrow morning at 9:40! Hot damn!
