We're on opposite coasts so I'm thinking San Juan Capistrano but you probably mean Puerto Rico?

Have not been there but have heard it is absolutely gorgeous!

Right you are ms BeanSprouts!!! I'm so excited, yet nervous, I have never left the country (yeah I know, they are part of the US)

I get nervous making reservations to places I have been to before, yet alone somewhere I have NOT!!!

Just looking for any input any one has. There is a good deal at a Wyndam and Marriot...

Did you book your trip yet? We've been wanting to go for a while now. I hear it's nice, but I worry about it being too "American".

If I'm traveling that far, I want a totally different cultural experience. No Starbucks allowed.

Let me know what it's like!

Hi Veronica~~~ So good to see you!

No we have not gone yet - Nov 12 thru 16th is what we are looking at. My hairstlyist married a guy from there, and she says it is not as American as you would think. Primary language is Spanish....

Then I was told yesterday that if you "Stay", I mean "stay" at the resort you will be fine, but to inter mingle with locals is not good???!!! :? I think that may be a bunch of bull, but it was a pretty reliable source that said it. Even said the resort he was staying at advised him against leaving to go to convenience store....

Idk where we are going!!! Just know it will not be NC/SC beaches or mountains or TN mountains!!! (we go those places all the time!)

Considering Vegas~~~any ideas ~ thoughts from you???

(my mom and stepdad are actually going to San Juan at the end of Oct, he is in the Air National Guard adn has to go, she is going to go for a week, so even if I do not go, she will have a story for us~!)

Hey girl,

I'm glad to have had a moment to stop by!

Here's what I've realized about all inclusive resorts, locals, crime, and such.

All inclusive resorts are in the business of KEEPING your business within it's walls. This is often done by putting the fear of God into tourists. I've never stayed in a resort in Jamaica, always walk around, and meet fun and most times quite interesting people.

In a resort, you get to have locals wait on you hand and foot while you spend your vacation meeting fun and interesting people from North Carolina and Tennessee.

Get it? It's mostly a marketing ploy, introduced by the cruise ship industry to encourage tourists to spend their money on the boat. Your typical island destination is dependent on tourism for it's survival. And the penalties for committing crimes against tourists are very steep.

San Juan can't be any worse than Montego Bay; just use the street sense you've developed and you should be fine. It's the same all over the world..... I can tell you that looking at a native Puerto Rican like he's going to rob and kill you is no way to earn cool points. It's unfortunate that these businesses encourage that behavior. Sets up resentment and mistrust on both sides.

Regarding Vegas, Ehh, not my cup of tea. But I already live in the desert and don't gamble. So it's too much like home, lol.

Where ever you go, have fun!!!

V

ps I'm going to Cali next weekend, and hope to have lunch with Robi!

Yeah, I am not too sure that Vegas is my cup of tea either, not a gambler really NOR do I have money to gamble!!! Never been to the desert tho!

Who knows, may end up being Puerto Rico, pretty inexpensive trip, which is what we are looking for right now, new local but affordable!

Also looking into So Padre Island Texas.....

Hope you and Robi get to have lunch!!
