Side Note: Anyone Happy w/their BIRTH CONTROL PILL?

Postby nomorumplytummy » Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:13 pm

I have not been on the pill for the last decade and am so scared to get back on it for fear of weight gain and/or problematic skin but ever since kids and esp postSX the hormonal swings are getting to the point where they're almost unbearable (extreme bloating, headaches, severe cramps, mood swings, back aches...and now, post SX, gas pains!).

Is anyone happy with their pill? May I ask which one you're taking? I'm going to make an appt to see my Gynecologist soon and would love to know. I know everyone is different but am just curious what works for you since it's been such a long time since I've been on the pill. I used to take Triphasil which I don't even think is made anymore but I had no problems with it.

Many Thanks!!

Im on ortho tri-cyclen lo. its a low dose of the regular good ol' pill. I like it have never switched.

Sounds like if its really affecting your like you could have PMDD and Yaz might be an option that will work well for you.

I would find a good gynecologist and sit down and discuss your options. You have other choices for hormonal regulation besides the pill.

How old are you now? Cuz pills have come a LONG way, baby! I was on Junel FE (low-dose estrogen) from about age 38 to 49. Then I transitioned to PremPro HRT 0.625/5 - which is an even lower dose of estrogen.

You should be able to find a pill that provides birth control without the bad side effects you had experienced.

If you are over 42 or so, I'd recommend you look into taking a daily probiotic. That is the *best* thing I've discovered in my recent transition to menopause. It helps with digestion, eliminates gas, and also ensures a healthy gut to combat the common cold.
Vaser High Def lipo on torso, neck & knee lipo, Neck, Midface lift, Brow Lift, Upper Eye Bleph, Lower Face lift, IPL, Sclerotherapy, Restylane, Juvederm, Botox and fat injections. Um, what's missing?! I've had it all.

I'm 40 and on Loestrin 24/FE. I hate BC but I have adenomyosis (endometriosis of the uterus) and really have no choice. I've been on it for a year and I agree that the newer pills are a lot better than 20 years ago. I have headaches and moodiness, but not the big weight gain I did years ago.

Hi Ladies,

I personally had an IUD (InterUterineDevice) placed in the uterus. Thats working nice. I have a Mirena. Its a 5 yr device. Ask your OB-GYN for more info. Hope that helps. ( No side effects, and basically no periods either)!!!

Thanks, ladies, for your replies :D

I posted this on the TT forum too and it sounds like lots of people are quite happy with the Mirena! So, there really are NO side effects? That seems to good to be true! Do you know how long it has been available? How do they insert it? Am definitely going to sit down and talk with my GYN about my options and making me feel better. I thought everyone had these symptoms?! The only reason I'm doing something about it is b/c they seem to be getting worse every year. I'm not over 42, but I do take a women's formula probiotic b/c I used to get yeast infections quite a bit after my period and it definitely seems to be helping but that's a recent thing and I really don't notice it helping with my PMS or Period.

I'll look into the low dose pills too but the Mirena does sound appealing to me. I guess I just need to know more about it b/c I'm always hesitant to try things that haven't been around long enough to really know all the possible side effects.

What is PMDD? I'm going to look it up but just thought I'd ask you all too...

Thank you again so much for letting me know what you all are taking, I really appreciate it and am glad you've found something that works for you!! I figure after investing all this $$ to get as close to the old me as possible, the last thing I need is to get preggers!!

I am on the Orthotrycycline Lo the Generic version. This is my first time doing the generic version I have been take it since Sunday, but for YEARS I have been taking the non generic version and I am very happy with my BC pill. VERY, VERY happy. I have no plans on having kids right now. Maybe in the next 5 or 6 years or so but not anytime soon. Also, I have tried other types and it didn't work well with me. This is the only one who has.
