Messed up surgery, please help

Messed up surgery, please help

Postby paul255 » Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:39 am

Ok, i spoke to my surgeon this morning on the phone and explained to him that i had the bandage changed on the 3rd day at my local hospital and that when i took it off i sore that the bottom half of my ear was the same as before and the top was pinned in. I look seriously deformed! He said to me on the phone that i said i only wanted the top part of my ear done as it was the most prominent. I didnt say that, he did! so i went along with him and trusted him as you do. He was weary about doing the surgery at first because i said i didnt want any epinephrine but in the end he was ok with it but i did lose alot of blood. Please can somebody give me some comfort or some reasurrance, i look aweful and dont think i can leave my house again,, it is that bad, no, actually, its worse.

I too am not totally happy with my results just on one ear, and i'm 2yrs post op !

Not much you can do now though if you've got a bad result, your going to have to either live with it or have a revision.
I decided revision, i'm in the UK and would prefer to have it done here, but USA is beginning to look the best option to have a higher chance of satisfaction.
It will cost though !

oh just to add.

Sounds like you've only just had this done, you need to leave it at least a month before you see the final results. As things look alot different when swelling goes down!.

Hi gwil, thanks for the reply. Im sorry you were not happy with yours. I will def go with the revision. I cant walk around with my ear the way it is.. its not just a little messed up, it is deformed big time, the bottom half is normal as it used to be and the top half is pinned back. I am in the uk to in wales. I will wait a few months but i havent really got any swelling, its just bent back at the top. I had mine done on the nhs.

Paul I definitely agree with gwil0283 if you just had the procedure done you should wait a couple of months until your ears are in their final position. Ears usually "spring out" after a couple of months because they have memory, and often times surgeons "overcorrect" the ears to account for the springback ears will have. If after 2-3 months you are still unhappy with your ears then inquire about a revision.

Hi fixup, I'm really sorry to hear how you feel and can understand your feelings - just search my posts. What exactly is the issue - eg is the ear shape and position ok but the scarring is the problem? I'm sure there must be a way to fix it.....

Thank you for your kind words 2timeoplasty I was loosing hope as i had no replies. I am glad you understand.

Ok I had an otoplasty in 2002 as i had bat ears they stuck out when the bandages where taken of i was shoched my left ear had marks inside on the outer ear the doc said they would fade with time well they have not at all. Also my ears both look different one stuck to my head and others sticks out a bit. i just dnt knw what o do. I have got in touch with D.Gault in london via email he said he i could try the pigment lesion laser with an ointment or have an ear reduction to get rid of some of marks. However I have read lots about him not nice things on here so dont know if i should even bother going o see him it is expensive. Dont want him to make me feel worse.

I just ont where to turn to so someone can take a look at them for me and give me some hope. I wan to o to an expert who wont do more harm it affects me psychologically sick of wearing my hair down nd hiding them. Could you suggest any1 to me please or point meinthe right direction. Do you know anything about d. gault.

Hi Fixup,

I'm really sorry to hear how this is affecting you. If you check my posts I've had a similar experience. Mine actually got worse after my revision otoplasty. My bad experience was with Dr Gault although I've heard of very good results from people he has helped with over-pinned ears via rib cartilige. Could you post pictures that you have modified to blank out your face? Or could you show pics with just the ears and the side of the head? It's difficult to visualise in order to try to offer advice.

Out of interest, how did you feel about your looks before your otoplasty?

Please feel free to reply here or PM me. I know it's difficult when you feel nobody understands. I don't always get an email when someone posts so I'll check back every now and then.

Hang in there. :)
