SILICONE, GORETEX or CARTILAGE?

Postby Rockanddoll » Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:08 am

Dear Dr. Nassif,

In terms of long run and more natural look to the nose, which would you recommend? Im asian and I would like my nose bridge higher. I initially wanted the "L-shaped" silicone but Ive been finding very bad side effects from it lately and now Im really scared. Do all silicone implants end up with extrusions? Is it true that silicones are more prone to infections?

I hope you can help me with my dilemma. Thank you very much in advance.

SILICONE, GORETEX or CARTILAGE?

Postby DrNassif » Thu Jul 24, 2008 11:47 am

Dear Rockanddoll,

Thank you very much for your question. Dorsal augmentation is a procedure that I perform routinely. I do not like using silicone implants because they can extrude.

My best recommendation for making the bridge higher is having diced cartilage wrapped in temporal fascia. The advantage of this is that it is from your own tissue and not it is not a foreign body. In addition, you can customize the height of your bridge with this procedure.

This is my recommendation and that is what I would do. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, or my assistant Jade, at my office at (310) 275-2467.
