ALAR BASE

ALAR BASE

Postby straightbridge » Wed Nov 02, 2016 8:04 am

Has anyone else had their alar base reduced? Are you happy with the results? I had mine reduced and wish I had not. I wish there was something I could do about it. I really wish I could widen it even a few millimeters. Some doc's say it can be done but the results might not be that great, while others say not to do it. I'm kicking myself for having this done. I think the doc who did this should have warned me that this is not reversible. He only wanted my money. He didn't care that he ruined my life. I've read from one doc that he can add a composite graft of skin and cartilage to the inside of the nose, where the ala attaches to the face. The added scar in this position isn't very noticeable. However, such approach can only add about 3mm of widening otherwise the scars may become too obvious. I'm not sure I trust this guy and I have a feeling he would turn me away and take my money for the consultation. I believe that this type procedure is very challenging and I don't have the slightest idea who would be the best at doing this. Maybe I should leave it alone, but I'm so depressed with my tiny nose. Others might not detect anything abnormal about my nose and I they would probably not say anything if they did. SB

And here I am depressed about my wide nose. Almost every pretty girl I see has a tiny, almost straight up and down, pointy-ish nose (except maybe Rihanna). I don't think I've seen anyone with my nose shape before. It's like really round on the sides and doesn't taper gracefully with my nose bridge. It just juts out at the base into a round mound of flesh. Honestly, it looks like a mushroom. T_T

If your nose doesn't look too pinched, then I'm sure it looks fine. I would even take a slightly-pinched nose over my wide nose that doesn't fit the rest of my delicate features any day.

I paid $25,000 (3 surgeries total) and went through nauseating pain to end up with a nose that looks the same.

I had my alar based reduced, my tip narrowed and rotated and a tip graft inserted, all without consent, specifically asked he not touch my tip at all. Liked having a bulbous tip and i was greek.
he shortened my nose, sutured it, rotated it, removed all the "unusual shaped cartilage in the tip" and added a tip graft
i hate all of it and have been told they can unsuture and release what he didnt trim, derotate it but nothing they can so with alar and nothing they can do to get my all my length back. and dont what to do about this tip graft.....he butchered my nose. did whatever he wanted and surprised I am not happy with my textbook appropriate angles results....

I'm trying to decide if I want to have the composite grafts added to the inside of my nostrils. If all goes well I think I'd be happier even though my alar base would only be a few mm wider. I'm assuming it would be for each nostril. I'm sure no one but me would notice the difference, but I think it would make me happier. If it doesn't go well, I could end up with abnormal contour of my nostrils. I suppose I'd be rolling the dice on this one. I would think that another try at it could possibly fix the abnormal contour. If any unhappy alar base reduction patient has tried this, please share. I don't want to make another mistake. Thanks.
