I'm almost 2 weeks post surgery and in doing the cleaning with Qtips routine I've noticed I have cartilage bumps just inside each nostril rim. My Dr. did some tip work on me, including somehow pulling the rims down a bit , and reducing the infratip. When I first noticed them, 2 days post op, they seemed to have stitches in them (maybe?) and were pretty sore. I just figured they were like flaps of excess cartilage and would lay down as they healed. They're not sore anymore, but they don't seem to be diminishing. I neosporin inside my nose a lot to try to prevent scar tissue. hope that's not what's happening to them.
They're obviously not visible to anyone, I have to tilt my head and look with a light to see them, but it's kind of disconcerting....for hygenic reasons, mostly (think nose blowing )
Join the bump club I'm 11 weeks post op. It feels like an obstacle course of bumps inside my nostrils when I clean with q-tips lol. Not sure what it's caused by....I assumed it was scar tissue? I'll ask my PS when I go see him friday but I wont count on getting a clear answer because he'll be in a rush as usual
I'm only a week post op and I have the swelled membranes (as my doctor called them yesterday), particularly inside one nostril more than the other. He said it was swelling and an area he did alot of cutting and stitching on so it is irritated. I hope it doesn't last as long as your guys-- when does the soreness in that area go away?
Is the bumpiness inside visible on the outside-- all I really care about is the exterior and obviously functionality inside...
These bumps don't impede your breathing do they? The one I have inside the left nostril does make that nostril feel conjested-- please tell me that and the throbbing pain is temporary.
I wouldn't worry if the only way you see the bumpiness is with a light pointed up your nose lol

tee hee Well, that's true...it's so close to the rim of my nostril though, what if it droops in 5 yrs instead of going away??
Actually, the swollen membranes you mention - impeding your breathing, that's further up I think? I had that too, and it did go away. I saw my doc after posting this and he assured me the bumps are from stitches on my nostril rim work, where he pulled and knotted, etc. He said 3 to 6 mo. before they smooth out. They are no longer sore.
actually, my swollen membranes are right up against my nostril rim-- I can see two bumps with some white crusting/goo (ewwww gross) at the tip of them by just tilting my head back slightly. But I don't walk around that way, so I'm more concerned about the pain going away. When did yours stop aching, do you remember? Also, is your tip still swollen, reflecting the inside swelling? I'm hoping the new fatness to my tip is swelling and not grafting b/c I do NOT like the look. When did your nose start to look more refined in the tip?

Okay, that's where my bumps are at too. I think they stopped being super sore around 12 days post? Something like that, just before the 2 week mark. But as far as aching...every night around 9 pm, I get the same twinging pains - bridge right side, and inside the tip both sides. Kind of like how a toothache always acts the worst at night. Not unbearable, but making it hard to get sleepy.
Swelling.... my swelling has been worse now that the tape came off. No new swelling when the cast came off, I guess the tape was holding it down. I had started sleeping with my normal 2 pillows about 4 nights ago, now I'm back to 3 and decided to start taping at night, even though my doc didn't think it was necessary. Very noticeable swelling in the tip when I wake up. I keep looking at my pics from immediately after the tape came off and reminding myself that's how it will look when it's all said and done (fingers crossed) I'm especially unhappy at the way my bump on the bridge seems to have come back a tiny bit. It does squash down slightly with massage, so, again....trying to be patient...
I got my cast off 2 days ago and I have the same thing in my left nostril! My PS said he had to break my nose on that side, so I was assuming that's why it's so much bigger than my right nostril. You can really tell from a side view that one side is way more swollen than the other. My PS said the swelling would go down, but after reading everyone's replies, I'm scared it won't.
I had pretty large bumps after my primary surgery. I was so pleased to see them gone after my revision. They were full of scar tissue. I have a small one building up in one nostril but it seems to have been in reaction to part of the stitch not falling out (it was getting infected and irritated at around the one-month mark last week). Try to keep it clean and don't mess with it too much!
Okay - I have a 15X magnifying mirror that I have used in direct sunlight (the best) to see what is going on in there because:
1) I fail to see why I should have scar tissue building up (at this point) inside my lower nostrils anywhere other than where the stitches/incisions were 2) I feel like I have these two (matching) sore areas (I am 10 days post surgery) right at the "tops" of my nostrils, where I didn't think I had stitches 3) I am sorry if this is too much information, but so far this has been a place where "nose run off" (aka boogers) accumulates and totally grosses me out while at the same time, being also too sore to really clean properly - so a big problem.
In any case, after messing around with my mirror, it does look like a spot of other stitches! I know - I have watched several open rhinoplasties (youtube) and can't imagine why there would be stitches in this spot, but I have an appointment Monday and plan to find out if I have them because that it what they look like. It does make sense because how could scar tissue build up in exactly the same way and same place in both nostrils? I have decades of nasty experience with uterine scar tissue and know it usually forms more randomly than this.
It's basically the main thing bothering me right now, so I guess I should feel lucky, though it is disgusting (and sore) (and semi-mysterious).
Sage-- I have the same exact nodules inside my upper inner nostrils (nested against the collumnella) and I think my doc told me they were stiches. I do think you hit the nail on the head that the reason they may be irritated and achey (they are for me to and I will be 2 weeks post op on Monday) is because that is where nostril runoff collects-- yes, pretty gross! I have been trying to aim my saline spray directly at these spots and then gently dabbing at them with a dry q tip. Then I apply bacitracian to the areas as my doc instructed. Curious to see what your doc says on Monday. I don't see mine till Friday and will update then.
Sidebar-- my doc says that exercise and heat only exacerbate swelling, and slow healing and may even cause scar tissue to develop in there. As much as I looooove to work out (seriously, I work out every day usually.), I have been a good patient and haven't done a THING! Nor have i gone outside in the heat much. I hope that helps keep that interior nose swelling down. Have you guys been good about the resting thing? Have you seen the interiors healing or feeling better on days you limit activity?
I know that this is an old thread - but it describes exactly my concern. I'm eleven days post-op and my left nostril is currently obstructed by a pea-sized lump of what seems like stitched cartilage in a wad only a few millimeters from my nostril opening. breathing is obviously affected, but ad others have said, it's th round bulge showing through on the outside if that nostril / through my admittedly swollen tip skin, thats scaring me. I see my doc next week, why can't they just snip it out of there, eew.
Very old thread, but it as been 7months since I got my nose job and recently I have found the white lump neat my nostril hole on my right nose!! I can feel it kind of swelling! Is this normal ?? It's driving me insane !!
