Dr. Davis- Rumors vs Reality

Dr. Davis- Rumors vs Reality

Postby HoldingOn » Wed May 11, 2016 4:38 am

Hey guys,
So every time I mull over all my research of the many doctors I have obtained info on, Dr. Davis's reputation is one that confuses me. All the posts I see with actual pic evidence points me to reason that he is a great choice as well as all the other info I've collected regarding him. However there is really only one thorn in my side when it come to Davis, and that is the "rumors of rumors" or "whispers of whispers" if you will, of unhappy patients and specifically, noses that have warped over time. And of this grand CONTROVERSY concerning him.
Now, I have never actually seen a picture of this from any patient on any site, NOR have I actually seen or read a FIRST hand experience of this negative result by anyone here or else where.

Ofcourse... I have heard of things like his long wait time from people who have contacted his office but the only people I see that talk about the bad results from him are not the actual patients themselves...it's kinda like " well my friend of a friend said that his friend...etc etc etc".
Where are the Original/Root Sources for these things being said?
Can someone link me to them?
I can't count him out just because of people talking about a controversy without actually having been involved in said controversy.
I have dug into the depths of forums to find where the patients who experienced these terrible things spoke about their misfortunes, but I just can't seem to find the word from the Horse's mouth.

Anyone care to enlighten me?
Any Davis patients unhappy and willing to perhaps email me pics?

Thank you in advance.

I know exactly what you mean! I have had a consult with him (he does indeed have a year long waiting list) and I would say it was the best consult I've had and I will schedule my rhino with him. There is a lady who is posting on RealSelf right now who say's her nose collapsed over 10 years - I was sceptical at first, but she sent me pictures privately and she definitely does have quite a severe collapse. All surgeons however have negative reviews out there - there is no perfect surgeon, and what I like about Davis is that I truly believe if you had a problem afterwards you could go back to him and he would help you. That is why I am still planning on going ahead with my surgery with him.

A Davis patient collapsed after ten years? Link?

My God. What did he use in her or do to her nose?

You have to select "most negative reviews "on realself (unless they've deleted them, as they will. The moderators there are such disgusting creeps, just like a lot of the surgeons they promote). Or read unrecommended reviews on realself.

This one is pretty awful to me. https://www.realself.com/review/miramar ... ic-failure

This lady said Davis shoved her full of grafts that drastically widened/shortened her nose after revision and Davis was very dismissive of her. https://www.realself.com/user/344708

The Italian guy on RealSelf has posted quite extensively over the internet. He sounds quite unhinged. I wouldn't be happy with his result - but I don't think it is a disaster. He also said that Davis 'blamed it on the patient', which makes me wonder if he somehow didn't comply with the post-op instructions.

I have my surgery booked with Davis soon. I will update afterwards.

The Italian guy is unhinged. He didn't like his results and that's fine. Davis improved it in my opinion and from what I know, offered to revise it again. He didn't want it revised with Dr. Davis and demanded to get a refund. Davis offered him a portion back (which many of us know, unless there was gross negligence involved, no plastic surgeon will refund you). He wasn't happy with that either and basically went online and started to trash Davis using multiple usernames. It's easy to tell because he uses a translation service to write his reviews so a lot of the wording is the same. Davis doesn't blame his patients, but he's very clear from the get go how essential the post op instructions. I'm guessing some things got lost in translation with this patient because if you don't follow his post op care to a T then he will let you know that your results can be compromised. The work isn't done as soon as the cast is removed.
Bottom line is, he's entitled to dislike his nose and he has a right to dislike Davis, but people should know both sides of the story before coming to a conclusion.

As for this patient.. https://www.realself.com/user/344708... I saw her photos. Her nose was really nice and I would have been thrilled with her results (mine was a tiny ski sloped botch job so I would've been happy with a stronger looking nose). She however was not because it was aesthetically not what she was looking for. She never said it was botched, just too strong and wide for her liking. She went back to him to have her grafts trimmed. She is now very happy (I've spoken to her on the phone) and I still keep in touch with her.

I have been on this forum and realself for a very long time because I was stuck on the revision treadmill. I had consults with many of the "top revision surgeons" around the country including all of the popular ones mentioned on this board. I chose to have my revision with Davis. It was my 4th. I needed rib to fix the many issues I had. The surgery was 7 hours. I had a tough recovery and a pretty ugly period where I almost regretted the revision. Now... 7 months later I could not be happier with my results. The rib has held up great and I had no post op issues like warping or infections.
My nose was very swollen and we were concerned with scar tissue developing and a callus where the osteotomy was done. He is very proactive in the healing and post op process. I live in CA but I fly to Fl every 6 weeks for my follow ups. It's expensive, exhausting and time consuming but it's worth every penny to sleep through the night and wake up looking forward to my day. Had I not gone back to get the kenalog shots, I'm not sure if my results would be as great as they are now. The callus I was developing has subsided and the swelling is kept at bay.

I was deeply depressed for 4 years and now I have my life back. He's not perfect and he's not for everyone, but never once did he claim to be. He set my expectations straight and has stuck by my side through my crazy emotional stage when I constantly emailed him and called him. I wasn't an easy patient, but he stayed and continues to stay patient with me and has always let me know that he will do his very best to make sure I am happy.

Thanks marmar84. I think we have emailed eachother. If it is you, You look beautiful and I am so happy your rhinoplasty nightmare is behind you. When you mentioned that you need to do alot of work post-op to protect the nose, what does Davis recommend? Did it involve diet changes before and after?

Hi Jane. Yes, he will discuss with you what you need to do pre and post op. I changed my diet to include a lot of leafy greens. I am an incredibly bad bruiser. I get bruised from a strong gust of wind:). So I wanted to make sure I did everything possible to expedite my healing process.
The post op care is the most important though. You stay in the hospital overnight and the nurses ice your face from the moment you wake up to the moment you leave. They supply you with everything you'll need to continue icing when you get home or to your hotel room. He basically drilled it into my head that I need to sleep upright with the ice over my face for as long as I can tolerate it but the first 72 hours was the most essential time. I also had to do saline rinses that included crushed antibiotics in it. After a few weeks, you start using Flonase every night and that helped with my swelling and congestion a lot. I also have gotten multiple (low dosages) of kenalog shots as well.

Personally i have find your comment very offensive to say the least.
Because in this website i posted in the photo page, the simulation made by dr. davis and the result obtained in the operating room.
It appears more than obvious that the aesthetic result is different from the simulation, and moreover it is also aesthetically unpleasant.
Therefore, if the dr. richard davis would made a honesty and realistic computer simulation, i would never have accepted no intervention on this doctor.

Hi Libutti

I am sorry for your result - we are all on this board because we have been in the same position. I think possibly what you are getting confused by is assuming that the computer morph is an exact replica of your final result - that is not the case. It is too give you an idea of what the surgeon would ideally like to achieve, but the surgeon makes it clear that the result cannot be guaranteed. I have consulted with Dr Davis and he was very clear to me that the morph was not a guarantee - it was a 'target'. Maybe that is where the communication has broken down with the language barrier?

As it happens, I think your front view looks great - and to me, it looks just like the morph. From the profile view however there is a bit of supra tip fullness, which I can understand you are not happy with. I wouldn't be happy with that either if it was my nose. But if you had worked with Dr Davis, maybe this is something he could have fixed for you with a revision procedure. With rhinoplasty, it is just a matter of fact that a relatively high number of people will need a touch up procedure later.

I have met most of the big name rhinoplasty surgeons and Dr Davis is the most honest and straight forward I have met. He is not a salesman and doesn't make false promises or guarantees - he lay's it out very squarely, what he can do, what he can't do and what the potential risks are. After that, it is up to you and whether you want to proceed in full knowledge of what you are getting in to.

Hi JR11,
i'm sorry but i not disagree with your thinking. Because the front view is wide and poorly defined, and not let's talk of the side view.
Therefore, this can not be called a good cosmetic surgery, but simply a badly executed attempt, by a doctor who was not up.

I've also noticed the same thing. I've researched this doctor and a lot of people complain about him.. Yet none have offered photos.. And the many say they haven't even had surgery with him. Why would someone go online just to complain about a doctor who has never operated on them? Very weird. Taking these kinds of comments with a grain of salt.

I saw your photos and yes it could be more defined. It looks improved from the front though. It's not a disaster. Why not go back to him for a revision?

My nose is FIFTEEN DEGREES more upturned than my morph. 15 degrees!! That's what happens when the doctor doesn't even try. Yours looks similar at least.
