Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision Rhinoplasty

Postby thetravelbug » Sat Sep 29, 2007 8:29 pm

Hello Everyone!!!

Well..... 10 months have passed and my nose is still the same. I have been researching the web for over 6 months now and have come to the conclusion that the more "revision surgeons" I read into the more confused I am getting!!!! There are so many out there and yet so many horrific outcomes!
Nevertheless, I have been to 2 consultations in the Toronto area and I am satisfied yet convinced that I should be flying to L.A and consulting with Dr. Nassif, Dr. Daniel or Dr. Constantine....or Dr. Kim???
I was wondering if there is anyone from Toronto who has had a surgery with any "revision specialists" in L.A - Beverly Hills??? If so, any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)
From what I have read. Dr. Nassif - supposedly the highest acclaimed and regarded revision rhino specialist charges any where from $15, 000.00 and up?

Thank Heavens for this fabulous site!!! It helps to know that there is somewhere we can turn to!!!!

Hi TB,

I've not yet had my primary rhinoplasty, scheduled for May.

However, in researching surgeons for my primary, many names kept coming up. A few of those were cited as best for revisions: Toriumi in Chicago, Nassif, Kanodian in LA, Denenberg in Omaha, and Adamson in Toronto.

Unless he did your primary, I'm wondering if you've had a consult with Adamson yet. I actually looked at him for my primary, but ended up consulting with Denenberg and Mustoe. Denenberg's fees were about $12,000 for my primary.

Sincerely,
London

Hi there - Definately see Dr. Daniel. I just had a revision surgery and I cannot tell you how happy I am. He ONLY does noses and revisions are his specialty. I truly had the best experience and so far, feel that I have the best results I could have imagined.

best of luck!

Thanks for the responses...

I looked into Dr. Daniel and I am sending my pics to him. Hopefully he considers me as a canidate for a Revision!

I also sent my pics to Dr. Deneberg. I'm just waiting for a response. I have an appointement with Dr. Adamson.... My primary surgery was not by him....

I'm just so anxious to get it done :)

P.S.... if anyone has any B/A pics, that would be fantastic.

Especially from Dr. Daniel, Dr. Nassif, Dr. Denenberg... and Dr. Rival or Dr. Adamson.

I'm leaning towards the best.........Dr. Nassif / Dr. Daniel???

Thanks Again

I'm 21 days post op from Nassif .. I'm still swollen, but if my nose stays this good, I will definitely be happy and say he is a very gifted surgeon. I had a revision - a crooked nose with collapsed nostril and sharp tip on one side. He fixed it and at this moment my nose is way more symmetrical and contoured. It looks natural now. (Hope it stays!)

He's very straightforward and doesn't mess around or try to sell you into doing anything .. He will tell you what is not possible and what is. I also chose him because he puts so many photos on his site that you can get a very good idea of the quality of his work.. the other surgeons have only like a few pictures up, and it's like shooting an arrow in the dark ..

I've heard that Daniel is good too, but I hadn't seen enough of his work to take a chance ..

Mr Tom,

how much was your revision with Dr Nassif?

Nassif

Postby terit » Fri Oct 05, 2007 8:15 pm

Nassif has a good reputation and his work is good--but long term is a second issue. I had a revision by him and it looked great for a few years. Then the goretex he used started to become a problem. It shifted and started to extrude! I had to go to another doctor for a fix. He said that a good revision will not use synthetic grafts--they are much easier to work with at first but can have complications later on. It is much harder to do a rhino revision with your natural spare tissue, but the results are more stable and have no risk of rejection or extrusion. Removing the goretex also cost my nose a lot of natural tissue and the fix was very difficult.

Dr. Daniel has TONS of photos in his office (consult is free) After he speaks with you at the consult, he lets you look through his massive binders of photos. In fact, he was able to pick out before/afters to show me where the "before" pics were similar to my nose. I have heard great things about Nassif too, but once I met with Dr. Daniel I knew he was the one to do the job. If any more cartilage is needed to help rebuild parts of the nose, he looks to the natural sources first - ear grafts, rib grafts, fascia (from the scalp). That is very interesting about the gortex - did you have it removed?

I had a primary done by Adamson approximately a year and a half ago and I have to say that I'm really disappointed with the results. All of the things that bugged me about my nose before the rhinoplasty still bug me now: it's still too bumpy, still too long, still too strong a feature on my face. I just don't feel that Dr. Adamson paid enough attention to my concerns during our consultation. He saw my nose and decided within minutes what he thought it should look like, regardless of what I wanted. Digital imaging wasn't part of my consultation with him in 2005, and in this day and age, that should raise red flags for any prospective patient. In fact, when I tried to show him the images of myself that I had digitally altered to illustrate the type of results I hoped to see, he refused to even glance at them. He assured me that he'd do the best he could. While I realize that digital imaging doesn't guarantee good results, it does ensure that the doctor and the patient are at least on the same page aesthetically speaking before the surgery. Dr. Adamson and I were not on the same page. I went into my surgery full of hope, but having almost no idea what I could hope for in terms of my results. In the end, he charged me $9,000 for a minor adjustment when what I'd really wanted was an overhaul. I realize that this is my fault -- I should have been more demanding and more discerning as a patient. Under what other circumstances would I pay $9,000 for something I'd never even seen?

Adamson is a suave and charming man, and he works with junior surgeons studying under his direction. When you ask for a consultation with Adamson, you wind up meeting with both surgeons. I personally found this situation intimidating. Since the meetings were never one-on-one, I felt pressured to agree with what both surgeons thought was best for me and unable to defend the changes that I really wanted to see. While this approach might make Adamson's job easier during the primary surgery, in the end it just results in bad press like this posting.

When I went to see Adamson (and his trainee) a month ago about the possibility of a revision (a procedure that cosmetic surgeons don't make any money doing!), he basically sidestepped all of my specific questions (Why didn't you reduce the bridge further? Why didn't you rotate my tip upwards?) and instead told me that I'm a good looking gal and no one really notices my nose anyway. Gee, glad I spent $9,000 on that.

After I had my primary surgery done by Adamson, I saw Dr. Denenberg's work on line. If I'd seen his work first, I wouldn't have considered anyone else. Visit Denenberg's site and see his work for yourself. I am in no way affiliated with Dr. Denenberg -- I'm just someone who wants to save others the regret that I now live with:

If my daughter one day wants her nose reshaped, I pray that Denenberg will still be operating. My last word of advice to anyone considering primary or secondary rhinoplasty: consider Denenberg, avoid Adamson.

Bad results can happen to the best doctors out there. I guess going throw the surgery is just taking that risk, where know one can predict the outcome. But having the most popular and the most expensive surgeon in Beverly Hills does not guarantees a best results.

Nassif

Postby mrTom » Fri Oct 12, 2007 1:58 am

I ended up paying Nassif's office a total of $13,500 plus $3,500 for the rib doctor who took rib cartilage out. Then I paid $800 for the blood test (after negotiating with the doctor they sent me to)

Nassif's office supposedly gave me a $7,000 discount for being a "standby" patient, which was one week before the surgery date.

He worked on me for 6 hours. I thought Nassif never uses goretex though? I'm surprised to hear that from the person above this post. For me he used rib cartilage, ear cartilage, and fascia from my temple. He told me ahead of time I wouldn't get perfect symmetry, but it does look better.

I just need the numbness to go away now and the graft to shrink so I can't see it in my nostril.....

Hi Travel bug:

I know from your posts you are looking at a number of doctors. You know Dr. Nassif is answering questions on this site. (If you go to the Forum Index and look under "Ask A Doctor".) I think you should send him your photos. Can I ask what are some of your issues with your nose?
