Just to let you know, I posted about your story and gave links to your website on the "Social/Psych Issues with Cosmetic Surgery" section of my board.

I just noticed the link/mention. Thanks.

Hi Pucky,
Thank you for the supportive words - I very much appreciate that.
It is truly sad to see that angelo cuzalina is:
(a) President of American Board of Cosmetic Surgery [As of 2013 Nov 23. Confirmed via http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery ... stees.html] &
(b) Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Fellowship Requirements - Chair [As of 2013 Nov 23. Confirmed via https://www.cosmeticsurgery.org/2013-aa ... and-chairs]

Reference:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... rocedures/

One would want to believe that ABCS & AACS would have members that would want to maintain the highest standard of ethics. Especially ABCS's Code of Ethics VIII [Below quote is exact from ABCS's website @ http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery ... thics.html]
VIII. Abide by the highest ethical standards in activities designed to attract patients to my practice including recognition of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery advertising policy which requires a diplomate to specifically state their area of certification in all advertisement;

Also, one can view ABCS's Advertising Statement @ http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery ... ement.html
Not to mention, on their website ABCS appears to be trying to help others understand the difference between cosmetic surgery & plastic surgery @ http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery ... rgery.html & as such above reference url's (google cache, showing the phrase "Dr. Angelo Cuzalina is a board certified plastic surgeon", when he is not) is very concerning for both potential patients & ABCS members.

Because of obvious concerns, As already mentioned, I have send a postal letter to the officers of ABCS (focused mainly on 'above Advertising Practice(s)') & am hoping that they will do all they can to maintain their own Code of Ethics. I personally believe that even they (ABCS's officers) must have been surprised upon receiving notarized evidence of such advertising by their president.

If anyone over here is also up for it, then I would love to encourage them to either contact Oklahoma Medical Board (@1-800-381-4519) and/or ABCS's Officers (List @ http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery ... stees.html) or AACS's Trustees (List @ https://www.cosmeticsurgery.org/board-trustees).

Gosh I can't believe this happened to you. I hope you get the huge settlement you deserve and other people are informed about how horrible a doc he is. I also hope you are able to get a good reconstruction.
I'm happy to answer PM's but please make sure you have some posting history before contacting me or I probably won't respond, sorry.

I think such a heinous case of malpractice like this one needs to go public. We need to take this surgeon out by way of the media. He will be forced to resign his post and have his med. license permanently revoked. Everyone here has an obligation to make sure we accomplish this. Lets organize a public campain to rid us of this so called Dr. before he maims someone else. Dr Phil would be very interested in this story. So would Dateline or 20/20.

Hi Pucky,

Thank you for the input, though my screwed up case story has already been in news (some names listed below), I have not given any real thought about talk shows. Thanks for the suggested names, I will check them out.

Hi Bachi,
Thanks for the tip & info. Since I rarely watch TV (last time I watched tv was to see the news featuring my story (I think June or July 2013) & before that was few months back). I will check out the website for Dr. Phil & Dateline.

Thanks for the media/talk show tip. I was recently contacted by a Talk Show & lets see how things go. Also, assuming show terms & other details are acceptable & work out, I will post an update.

Thanks again.

Did the doctors on the show refer you to any nose revision doctors? Did they offer to help?

---

I had trouble viewing the video, but I found the summary:

Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed. The surgery can help improve the appearance and proportion of the nose, and may also be used to correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nasal canal. Rhinoplasties are not suited for everyone, however, and the operation comes with potential risks, which include infection, permanent nerve damage and the need for follow-up surgeries. In the case of 35-year-old Vishal, the procedure led to what he calls his “plastic surgery nightmare.”

Hoping to improve the shape of his nose, Vishal underwent a routine rhinoplasty in June 2006. After the operation, he experienced difficulty breathing through his nose, which he says hindered his ability to perform simple physical activities, such as walking and climbing stairs. Between September 2006 and August 2011, Vishal underwent seven additional surgeries, all of which failed to fix the problem. Shortly after his eighth operation, Vishal’s nose started to collapse. Despite the complications, Vishal continued to undergo corrective procedures.

After another surgery in December 2011, Vishal was shocked and devastated when he discovered that the tip of his nose had been removed. The drastic measure was allegedly necessary to stop the spread of tissue necrosis, which resulted from his multiple operations. Since that time, Vishal has endured several more unsuccessful surgeries, attempting to correct the disfigurement. He currently relies on a tube to breathe through his nose.

“I have just one hole where my two nostrils used to be. It’s one of the most uncomfortable feelings,” Vishal explains. “Every day, I have to depend on pain medication just to get by. When you are surrounded by so much pain, it kills your desire to do anything in life.”
Vishal has consulted with several of the nation’s top nasal reconstructive specialists, who believe his nose can be repaired in four to six operations. Vishal is currently working to raise money for the surgeries he needs to restore his appearance.

Hi, I've just watched Botched up Bodies, a UK based programme and Vishal was interviewed on there.

He was filmed having a consult with Frederick Menick who gave him some hope that he could reconstruct his nose. They stated the cost would be £90,000.

Hopefully he can raise the funds and at some point in the future have the reconstruction. Judging my Menick's gallery he's the man for the job.

This doctor needs to lose his license if he hasn't already! My heart breaks for Vishal and I hope that he can get this fixed soon!

The "American Board of Cosmetic Surgery" is not a real board. You can do any residency plus 1 year of a "fellowship" and be a member without taking a test. Most other boards require testing OR require that the residency be done in a particular specialty. I would discourage anyone from going to a surgeon that doesn't have any certification of one of these boards:

Was this a new show or a repeat? I was wondering what happened to him or the status of his nose surgery. Actually, I found the story about the man who cut half his nose off to look like a comic book character when I was searching for updates on him.

I think Menick is the right choice. I hope he has the surgery soon.
