Check your surgeon!

Check your surgeon!

Postby xdpaths » Tue Oct 09, 2007 3:47 pm

Hey everyone,

It's been awhile since I have posted. I was disturbed to get the following email from a friend of mine. This was posted in an Arizona newspaper. THREE people had to die before they suspended this "doctor's" license.

When will people STOP choosing doctors who are not Board Certified in Plastic Surgery??

Some of you were with me here at the beginning of my horrible ordeal. It was one year ago today that it all started. I was one who did not properly research the doctor who was to perform several plastic surgery procedures. Although he advertised himself as a "board certified plastic surgeon", it turns out he was a board certified Ear Nose and Throat doctor performing plastic surgery procedures. What happened to me was devastating; emotionally, financially and physically. Thankfully, I did not lose my life.

I beg all of you who have not gone through with your surgery yet, to research your surgeon. It's as simple as going here: http://www1.plasticsurgery.org/ebusines ... rgeon.aspx or here www.abms.org. (this site will tell you what your doctor's board certification is).

Also, several states and counties have access to their court filings online. This is very helpful in researching if your surgeon has any lawsuits filed against him/her. I was shocked and sickened at the "rap" sheet my guy had.

If anyone needs help looking up their surgeon, please email me. I would be so glad to help. If I can save just one person from making the terrible choice I made, it would be worth it.

-X

Dominican doctors

Postby Dawn2007 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 3:05 am

I've been trying to find out info on a doctor in the Dinican Republic ,Dr. Ruben Carrasco. I found his website, but nothing from prior patients or news articles about him. Do you have any idea how to find out if he's board certified in the Dominican Republic?
Thanks

Forgot to mention, I found him through Global Medical Services Inc. (globalsurgerycenter.com) I'm also trying to find out if they are legit, as they claimed the doctor doesn't have a website even though I found it.

Thanks again

Sorry. I haven't a clue about board certification for outside the US, but I did find this. You may want to research it further.

The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo and the CDC are aware of several cases in which U.S. citizens experienced serious complications or died following elective (cosmetic) surgery in the Dominican Republic. The CDC’s web site at http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5323a4.htm contains a report on patients who suffered postoperative infections following cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic. Patients considering travel to the Dominican Republic for cosmetic surgery may also wish to contact the Dominican Society of Plastic Surgeons (tel. 809-688-8451) to verify the training, qualifications, and reputation of specific doctors.

Here's the link to check on Mexican Board Certified Surgeons http://www.cmcper.org.mx/site/index.php?lang=us

You can also check out state by state on the Mexican Association for Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery site http://www.cirugiaplastica.org.mx/ddc.html

Indeed! Some people think that it is not important to check their surgeon's credentials. That's why some of these lazy clients end up with botched surgeries from non-specialists.
